That's true, but it also limits creative capability and I think they're willing to live with a few black jerseys if these sell well, which I think they're almost guaranteed to if done right.

Besides I think once the playoffs come around, people will leave the black jerseys at home.

Maybe the colours on Blasty will be reversed somehow?
I have a black practice jersey with a white C on it from back in the day and I always thought it looked good, would be excited to see that come to be. The black pedestal looks cool too, wouldn't mind that as well, though the teaser today doesn't look like the right striping for that.

The generic striping on the teasers the NHL put out has nothing to do with the actual jersey, they were just teasing the colors and year each team is using

The design in the teaser does not seem to have any relation to what the actual jersey design is, so not sure it matters. If it did, there would be 31 identical jersey designs - and that's not the case.

I was under the impression that the color scheme and year on the jerseys in the teaser had meaning.

Yes this is true. What the other poster meant was the design of the jersey was generic (striping, shoulders, collar, etc).

So far all that's confirmed is:
Jersey will be black with red and yellow
Numbers will be white
Horsehead is somewhere on it
1998 is where their inspiration comes from

I think using the year 98 vs. 96 says that you're probably right on the money there.

I would say with red C's on the shoulders, no Adidas fake laces, and as an actual jersey with the stripes popping a bit more, it would look great.
