Looks like the MAGA cult are starting to disappear pretty quickly. CBC just showed a group of Trumpers in Georgia protesting at the vote counting facility, and it was a pathetic turnout. Looked like maybe 20 or 30 people, tops.
Even so, I have neighbors who I would consider good people and decent friends. They're Trump supporters. Wear the MAGA hats and everything. On just about every other topic we get along.
What's my point? No, they're not monsters all, but they are obtuse to the reasons why Trump is/was dangerous and horrifying to the rest of the country. His policies helped them and for that reason they liked him. They're just self-involved to a fault. A lot of Americans are like that.
It's still a problem, but it's more a problem of willful ignorance than being truly evil, at least that's my experience.
There is definitely a minority group that are openly stupid/racist, and they should be admonished for being so.
But you cannot go through life with blinders on? Ignoring the suffering, racism, homophobia, caring about nothing outside of your own little bubble world? How can you accept people like that are good people? Ignorance is not good!
The Democrats have a huge opportunity with Georgia to continue the grassroots movements and hopefully build more inroads in the south.
I was surprised looking at county break downs, that even places like Mississippi and Alabama had a bit of a blue continuum. I really hope they don't piss away the opportunity.
They won't ever win over the Confederate flag waving deplorables, nor should they try, but there should be able to do more among minorities and moderates in those states.

I accept that they are "relatively" good people because they don't run around espousing hate, they aren't outwardly racist or sexist (but I'm never entirely sure), and they have been good friends to us despite our different political viewpoints. They are traditional republicans who are concerned about freedom above all else, and they simply don't trust democrats. They also truly think that democrats deal in socialism, and they want unfettered capitalism above all else. It's rooted in ideology, not hatred. But yeah, they ignore the bad stuff to get what they want, which is the problem.
I know, it's hard because it creates cognitive dissonance in me as well, but I have to accept them as the people they are and work to change them by being an example and maybe having a rare conversation on a topic we can agree on.

Just got back from golfing, where I learned on the third hole that Joe Biden had been elected President of the United States. Came here to celebrate with my extended virtual family, only to find that the neighbors had sent their obnoxious slow kid over to ruin the party. It is really disappointing to see this moment that should be celebrated turned into yet another ridiculous multi-page mess because of some idiot trying to play games by arguing semantics and making people chase goal posts. I don't know how Huldrefolk sticks around, but his act is so lame and his intellectual dishonesty is the ultimate insult to the board. I urge everyone to ignore the person in question and instead celebrate the fact that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be leading the country going forward.

If this attitude can spread, the US has hope.
People can be presented with the same observations and still come to different conclusions. Once people realize this, then they can start to have conversations to bridge the divides, rather than name calling and just assuming that someone is a degenerate without a dialogue.

No one ever believes they are racist though, Hitler would have happily told you he had nothing against Jews, he even had a Jewish friend back in the day in Munich, he was just protecting Germany, the KKK would never say they hated blacks, just that they needed to protect white women.

Hitler actually awarded some Jews with medals and recognition for service to the Third Reich for that matter. He had high ranking officers in his army with Jewish lineage. Some Jews from Finland were offered medals for fighting off the Soviets, but most declined to accept them and said they were fighting for Finland, not Germany. I am not sure where I am going with this, just some random trivia in the event that someone needs it to attract sexual partners. Chicks love it when guys drop random trivia.
People who support Trump like to hang onto the notion that he can't be racist if he has some black supporters, but things are more complicated than that. There were black slave owners that supported the Confederacy, but that doesn't mean that the slavery policies weren't racist. Some people will just accept things that cause suffering for others as long as it helps them personally. Deplorables come in all different colours.
