Tkachuk Monahan Dube
Gaudreau Bennett Leivo
Mangiapane Backlund Lindholm
Lucic Ryan Simon
Nordstrom Rinaldo Gawdin Robinson as depth/extras

First 3 lines with fairly even ice time...each of top 2 lines have a mix of playmaking, sandpaper and finisher. Third line a strong 2 way line.

I've been wishing all last season they would use their center depth to create 3 lines to out coach with. Obvi you don't always get your match up but with center depth you get it more often. Will johnny get bent out of shape if he's not 1st line? Did Patrick Kane?

Tkachuk - Lindholm - X
Defensively responsible + can score (start anywhere)

Gaudreau - Monahan - x
Not defensively responsible + can score (start O)

X - Backlund - X
Defensively responsible + less scoring threat (start anywhere)

Mix it up with the RWers to find some chemo.

Try something different with what you have because it's what you have. And johnny monny top line ain't gonna do it.

Tkachuk - Backlund - Mangiapane
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Lucic - Bennett - Dube
Nordstrom - Ryan - Leivo
Simon

I still think it’s the most likely, and the most balanced. Last year was a down season for the majority of the team. Coaching position is locked in now, and with a coach that the team hasn’t visibly quit on. I think if the team rolls what I have listed here, they’ll be near the top of the league.

I don't hate it. If Mangiapane and Tkachuk both progress a little bit, and the Gaudreau line bounces back to their mean (80 point Gaudreau, 30 goal Monahan), then that lineup could contend.

Lindholm might be our most important forward IMO. He should be getting the most 5-on-5 ice-time if he can handle it.

Some new Eklund trash to discuss (or not)

On Gaudreau...
Following up on a lead that the Canadiens have talked "very seriously" in the last few days with the Flames regarding Johny Gaudreau. This is interesting on several levels, not the least of which comes the news that people close to Gaudreau are saying he may have played his last game in Calgary...

On Gostisbehere...
There is more interest now i am told. The Hawks are the team to watch..Calgary and Winnipeg have interest as well...But I get the impression the only way Gostisbehere ends up in Winnipeg is if it is part of a deal for Laine..

Ya Ghost only moves in a deal for Laine

Habs have no space or assets that make any sense for Gaudreau. Pure garbage but no rumors these days. I don’t see Johnny getting dealt now (which will cost me $50 on a bet I made after they lost to the Stars)

Pretty sure the Canadiens would only want Gaudreau because his last name sounds French. Just like Rene Bourque.

Ghost to Calgary at this point makes no sense. The cap doesn't work at all and we don't have a logical spot to play him.

Trading Gaudreau is also baffling at this stage- because I urgently needed a mind distraction at work I decided to try and build a trade that worked with Montreal, and I just can't get there.

Kotkaniemi or Suzuki is a must. I assume at this point they would rather see Kotka traded of the two.
Tatar or Lekhonen
Montreal's 2021 1st

Don't like it at all tbh.

Wasn't there some trade that a CPer overheard between some Flames brass that for sure had Gaudreau moved for Domi & Poehling and some other piece?

What about Kotkaniemi+Drouin?

Drouin is not performing to his draft potential, but still has undeniable skill and may work in a supporting role here. Kotka gives us a shot at a #1C.

Mangiapane-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Drouin-Monahan-Dube
Bennett-Backlund-Leivo
Lucic-Ryan-Nordstrom/Simon
Kotka marinating a bit longer in AHL...

Kotkaniemi and Suzuki are untouchable at this point.

Armia, Byron and Caulfield are potentially available. It's not too early to start stockpiling 2022 unprotected first round picks, with that being Wright's year.

Cole Caufield is unlikely to be available. Why would you think that?

No base of KK or Suzuki and a plus that isn’t a first or Caufield is an instant no to trading Gaudreau.

An elite playmaker doesn’t grow on trees.

For the same reason Armia is now available. Natural RW when the Habs committed to Toffoli, Gallagher and Anderson long term.

Armia is a vet under contract. Caufield is a college dynamo with a killer shot who has yet to sniff the AHL even and will be under team control on an ELC for years to come.

I wonder if the Flames keep Johnny and Monny together, if so I would like:

Tkachuk-Monahan-Gaudreau
Mangiapane-Backlund-Lindholm
Dube-Bennett-Leivo
Lucic-Ryan-Simon

If the team is deadset on having Lindholm at center then I think you could look at a more balanced forward lines group with two forward lines that are more defensive oriented with defensive zone starts, and two forward lines that are more sheltered with offensive zone starts.

Tough Matchup Defensive Starts:
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Simon/Nordstrom - Backlund - Ryan

Sheltered Offensive Starts:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Leivo
Lucic - Bennett - Dube

Honestly feel like you could probably roll those 4 lines pretty evenly at 5v5 (12-14 minutes), with the top guys making up their TOI on PP & PK. Feel like it's pretty balanced and with smart coaching in terms of utilization you probably are in pretty good shape.

None of these move the needle for Gaudreau. I understand that they wouldn't want to trade either of Suzuki or Kotka, but you have to pay to receive talent. + removing one of these two will keep Danault happy, and that might actually be a better target for them in the near term.
