Other than last year he had 40+pts in 5 straight years. I agree from a Flames perspective I rather have Leivo as he is a right shot. This is a nice pickup for the Sens specifically.

They are all empty calorie points though. He is a detriment basically whenever he is on the ice. It’s why he keeps moving from team to team, doghouse to doghouse.

I am going to stand by my comment that this is a good signing for the basement dwelling Sens. They are not going anywhere next year and Galchenyuk is a 26 year old former 30 goal scorer. It doesn’t work out he is waived, if it does he could bring an asset in at the deadline and the Sens are not forced to rush a kid into the lineup.

Agree that it isn't a bad signing for a basement team, but not the type of player I want to see on the Flames.

Decent signing for both the player and the team. Galchenyuk will potentially get a good opportunity to play top 6.

I anticipate that Galchenyuk will have a high production season. He'll have a top 6 spot probably, likely knows that his career in the NHL will be mostly over if he doesn't pop, and has been handed a reality check with the $ value on this contract.

My prediction is that he produces in the 50-60 point range and someone desperate gives him a brutal contract next summer where he proceeds to coast off into the sunset.

funny thing is, if Galchenyuk has a decent season, he'll probably be moved at the deadline to team #6

Agreed. But that goes back to him being a good pickup for a bottom feeder. He needs to be in the top 6 in order to be of any value. But he isn't good enough to be in the top 6 of a decent team.

So he gets the opportunity in Ottawa, where, with that opportunity and ice-time, he will put up some points. Then some team will be duped into taking a chance on him.

Please let it not be the Flames.

Best place for Galchenyuk is probably to be a complementary winger to a forward duo who can handle the hard work but want a little extra scoring pop. He can't carry the mail, but if you have a centre who can drive the truck and a winger who can lift the mailbags, Galchenyuk can go the last few feet and stick the letters in the box. You might have him on the second line for tactical reasons while better all-round players are on the third.

If he's genuinely one of your six best forwards, you're probably hooped.

Galchenyuk's career points per game, and goals per game, are quite good.
Could still have 60 to 70 point potential.

But I understand those who have reservations. 5 teams by the age of 26.
