Concern about another 2016 and how there was way too much “Hillary has it in the bag, vote your conscience” business. I hope there are more stories about it being closer than we think, drive democratic voter turnout even more. Voter apathy is a dangerous thing.

That's the thing though, the paranoia shows that people aren't gonna take chances which is part of what makes this so boring. That 2016 ever happened will, at least for this cycle, ensure no complacency. Whether it matters past this year is anyone's guess.

Right now is about as promising for Biden and America as could have been hoped for during the last three years. There's still the uncertainty of contested results, the ongoing virus issues, the damage to the economy and financial system, the SCOTUS situation, the general corruption in government, the division between left and right with separate media bubbles, the climate change-related disasters and the terrible wealth gap to face if Biden does get in, but in terms of the prospects of him winning the vote things are looking pretty good.

Nothing is going to top the church photo op and the time he rolled out that propaganda strokefest video presentation in the middle of a coronavirus update. Just surreal.
However, it was pretty satisfying to see him crushed when "Bibi" didn't give him the answer he was desperately hoping for. Beautiful agony.

I’m pretty sure he still is, but he’s the lesser evil. I don’t think that many people are excited to vote for Biden, but they’re looking forward to voting against Trump.

We obviously can't know, but I wonder what the polls would have been looking like right now if not for covid. For as much harm as it is doing, in some respect I feel like the virus is the savior of American democracy.

Avoiding the whole oil debate here and just trying to speak politically...
I’d suggest the vast majority of folks with whom “phase out oil” resonates are firmly pro-Biden and that a large segment of the undecideds/leans in pro-oil states like Texas and Pennsylvania are torn between pro-oil and anti-Trump feelings. This was a landmine and Biden bellyflopped right onto it. It was dumb.

Assuming the economy stayed healthy (as measured by the stock markets and unemployment numbers at least) and without the endless opportunities to show his incompetence and callousness that Covid provided I think he would be re-elected.

Do the vast majority of people want fossil fuels phased out?
Maybe we should ask the vast majority of Californians what they think about their 'green' state right now?
The argument is laughable at best right now, and I'm about as pro solar/wind/nuclear/EV/battery storage as anyone on here.

Hard to say. If COVID never existed, it might be a closer race, but I think the unrest from the summer has been just as big of a motivation to get more people out to vote, especially minorities.
If COVID did exist, but Trump was very successful at handling it, it probably would have been enough to get him re-elected. If it never existed and no one knew anything different, it's anyone's guess in my opinion. My guess is that something else would have blown up on him. We only ever hear about the situations that get out of control, but I am sure there are things presidents deal with that we never hear about due to national security concerns. With people as dumb as the Trump dynasty running the show, it was probably only a matter of time until some nefarious slipped through to hurt Americans.
COVID has also seemed to embolden extremists, so the long term impact, even if Trump loses, might be net loss if Biden cannot turn things around in 4 years.
