My girlfriend didn't want anything big, so she agreed to flowers (I got two dozen roses), then this weekend, we're going to work on a project together (making a momento box).

See, that's cute, working on a project together. That's what the day is supposed to be about, just spending time together. I would imagine most women would forgo the jewelry and such for just some nice quality time together.

Happy Valentines Day!

Time to drown my tears in a bowl of Kraft Dinner and wallow in my own self pity!

Well, I just received a big balloon bouquet tied to a basket of chocolates and stuff.

*checks the card* Whew, it is from my wife.

My wife and I never really do anything for Valentines day and this year is not much diffferent. We did get each other cards and a little gift. My choice was perhaps ridiculous, but she does really want one so I thought it was okay. I bought her a scale (that measures body fat and everything). I am already kind of regretting this choice (I'm sure that it will go over well with her friends!).

I don't know though; valentines day is not a big deal to us, so hopefully she takes this as its intended to be (nice and not suggestive in any way!).

(I'm regretting this even more now that I've typed this out and tried to explain this rationally to other people....)

You win! This item was on the list of "Bad Valentine's Day Gifts" along with Wolf urine, vacuum cleaners, and a book on scabs!

Sorry to hear, Cal-Gal, but don't waste your time thinking about him. Find someone better.
See, I've always joked with my buddies about breaking up before Christmas or Valentine's Day, or simply staying single between those days, but I didn't think guys were actually stupid, cheap or callous enough to do it. Pretty low stuff, probably the tip of the loser iceberg.

I also always joke about the cubic zirconia engagement ring, and how the woman has to earn the diamond... but it doesn't mean I'd actually do it. I know some guys who would, and probably do.

Dude, as a fellow married man I have to tell you that if you give her a scale for Valentine's Day then you are setting yourself up for a lot of hassles as she will bring it up in arguements for the rest of her life. Return the scale and get her a spa treatment or something girly like that. The odds of surviving such a gift are so long that they can't even be calculated.

I've been 'dumped' between Christmas and Valentine's Day, and you know what? Sometimes it's just right. When you're in a relationship for over two years, is there ever a right time to do it? It doesn't matter when it happens, when it's wrong, it's wrong now. Waiting a month doesn't matter.

Yeah, it seemed like a decent enough idea at the time, but more and more I'm just regretting the purchase. I don't know. I still might run out and pick something else up and just happen to have a new scale as well....

I had no idea that this list even existed....I would think who considers most of these gifts in the first place! But then again I've already purchased and might still deliver this by the end of the day so what can I say?!

Well, not all women are hyper sensitive to all things having to do with weight loss... However, I would suggest shelving this idea for another day. Valentines day is supposed to be about romance and spending time together and a scale isn't either of those things.

You've dug yourself into a hole... a whole lot of trouble.

Save the scale for the weekend then say you know she wanted one so you got he one.

If you can't pull back on the scale gift for some reason, your only hope is chocolate; enough that you need the scale to measure how much you got. Then cross your fingers.

I suppose I agree with this, however a breakup sucks all the more when it happens around holidays that are traditionally ones that you want to be with someone special. I was dumped on New years eve and ended up spending the night ringing in the new year alone. I would imagine that sucked a lot more than if he had broken up with me maybe a week prior to New years.

Hide it for a couple of days and then say you bought it for yourself, then just put it in the main bathroom so you both can use it. They are cool things, but you know how it might be perceived by a lady.

Its got nothing to do with weight loss. We both work out a fair amount and she has mentioned that she wants a scale that measures all of this stuff. I guess I just figured it would be something that was interesting and kind of a good idea in that vein. I'm pretty sure that I'll be doing some more shopping this afternoon though because the more I think about these things; its just not worth the risk. Maybe I'll just go with flowers and still throw the scale in and tell her the stupid idea I had at the same time. She'll most likely laugh I think.

You can either sit at home and feel sorry for yourself on NYE or get out there and and make the best of night. I've spent many a NYE alone and had no problems finding something to do. It's all a matter of how you look at things.

I had literally been dumped while getting ready to go out to a big new years party when he dumped me to take the woman that he had been cheating on me with... I think that sucks, no matter how you look at it.

The girl I've been flirting with just found out her ex-boyfriend (whom she dated for 2 years) was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, so the last couple of days, I've been kind of hesitant to get any kind of Valentines tradition going outside of asking her to be my Valentine this year. Plus, she said she hates Valentines Day. Haha.

Normally, however, I've spent Valentines Day alone. I don't really hate it, though. I figure, those who are into that kind of thing are going to spent the money anyway, and those who hate the holiday are going to avoid it. Not a big deal. Just a great excuse to vege out, play video games and/or rent and watch some new DvD releases.
