On another note, hearing Ted Cruz speak today reminds me of what an insufferable a-hole he is. Just a smarmy, slimy little weasel. Even if he could be right on a point or two, his delivery is so disgusting I just want to smack him across the face.

Agreed. He disgusts me!

Nothing, they are one and the same. That's the problem.

Arabic=bad/terrorists to many Mericans. If you don't know what it means look it up somehow, maybe with the computer or phone you are using to answer the poll.

Mini rabbit hole...I was wondering if they write numbers backwards, since they compose right to left. They do not, the write them the same as us. They see it as reading the least significant digit first.

It also points out that Arabic numerals originated in India, where they compose in both directions.

Wait a minute. We are using Phillies fans as a representation of Americans??? The fans who get arrested for intentionally vomiting on little girls? I'm surprised any of them got it right!

The name is a little misleading though. They were introduced to Europe through Arabs, but actually originated in India.

(I see that was already mentioned by Fuzz)

Western Arabic (Gobar) & 15th Century had pretty crappy 5s that look too much like 9s.

Yes and no. It's actually extremely confusing if you're not speaking the language on a daily basis.

For example, the number 241 385 is read from left to right in English ( two hundred, forty-one thousand, three hundred, eighty-five).

In Arabic it bounces around a lot ( two hundred and one and forty thousand, three hundred and five and eighty).

So it sounds like we should not be teaching math in Arabic in schools, because it would be unnecessarily confusing for the non-Arabic speakers.

Might as well nominate David Duke.

I've posted it before, but if the Democrats go back to the neoliberal policies of the Obama and Clinton administrations, and do nothing to solve the rampant inequality in the country and the entrenched corporate aristocracy/oligarchy, we're going to be right back here in 4-8 years with another (likely worse) version of Trump.
