He’ll get closer to 3M than $1.75M.

Tough question . I would like to think not, but top line/1b centers hold their weight in gold on trade market.

Looking at his Twitter, Steinberg tends to just regurgitate Eric Francis takes so besmirch him I will. Regardless, he speculated about Gaudreau and Monahan. He has no inside information, more like the usual listening to what Francis has been spewing.

No, but you might when I pick out your avatar when neither one moves. For the record if you look at my posts I have been preaching for the Flames to trade Monahan for a while now in a package to upgrade our C and I also jumped on board the trade Gaudreau train once Ward was announced as head coach because he doesn't fit his coaching style. I just don't see either one happening.

Protected:

Tkachuk, Monahan, Reinhart, Mangiapane, Backlund, Lindholm, Dube
Hanifin, Andersson, Jokiharju
Markstrom

So Bennett, Gio and Tanev get left, and Kylington as well.

If Bennett turns a huge corner that changes things. If Jokiharju doesn’t pan out well, he gets exposed.

Trade Derek Ryan to whoever for a draft pick

Flames brass seems to like “rink rats” and “professionals” who take their craft seriously. I just don’t know that Laine is that type, he just seems like he’d rather be doing something else. So I’m not sure the Flames would pay a premium for him.

I wouldn't trade Hanifin straight up for Reinhart let alone add Rittich. In a condensed schedule we will need Rittich and Hanifin still has plenty of upside. Agree with Ryan though.

If we could pull if off and keep Rittich it would make our lineup a lot more balanced:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Reinhart
Tkachuk-Backlund-Lindholm
Mangiapane-Bennett-Dube
Lucic-Gawdin-Robinson

Gio-Andersson
Valimaki-Tanev
Kylington-Vatanen

Markstrom
Rittich

(Derek Ryan is much better than Sami Vatanen)
And not only that I would much rather see a bottom pairing of Valimaki and Mackey than see Buddy Robinson as an NHL regular on the fourth line.

Good teams run four lines deep. The grass isn't greener with Vatanen compared to Ryan. That's a massive defensive downgrade for this team.

It’s not about Vatanen.

It’s that it’s pretty obvious something needs to happen to make cap space if we intend to have a 22-23 man roster with some cap flexibility.

Ryan is one of the easiest targets to consider trading because everyone else is more valuable long term, has an albatross contract or doesn’t have a big enough cap hit to make a difference.

The path of least resistance would be to trade Ryan for a pick but many here are speculating something bigger is brewing but at the end of the day we might not have the luxury of having a bigger contract like Ryan’s as our 4th line center.

Monahan is signed for 3 more years and plays centre.

He’s unquestionably a more valuable trade piece.
