Fight hard bud. I know a couple people who have it as well, and science has come along way.

Yeah, 5M is very cheap for a top pairing defenseman.

I'm kind of shocked Flames couldn't match or top this.

I'm also worried that this hole is going to be patched with another Treliving Special Signing, someone worse but more expensive.

Brodie was a big part of defending McDavid. With Gio losing a step Brodie was a huge part of that pairing.

I'm on board with a big change out in the regular roster, but this does sting a tad.

As much as I like him, I don’t think Brodie is seen as a top pairing guy on a lot of teams.

At a low cost maybe.
Tanev is a great player...and makes the odd save

I think we'll see them pursue Barrie on a deal with much shorter term.
I could see Barrie at 1x5-5.5, then he won't need to be protected in expansion and he'll know more about the way the economics are trending before signing a long term deal somewhere.

If we can't get Barrie I want Vatanen or Tanev

Leafs defense slowly coming along. Reilly, Muzzin, Brodie, Holl with the young guys Dermott, Sandin, and Liligren.

I like this deal. Reasonable caphit and term.

Why do people think the Flames didn't offer this? It was mentioned numerous times that Brodie wanted to be closer to family.

Well it's quite possible Brodie was willing to take less to play in TO than here. I think we'd have had to go at least a year longer or maybe $500k more per year for the same term for him to come back. Or, as others are saying, the NMC could have been the sticking point.

I liked Brodie in his time here but fine with parting ways. We need to change this team, and guys leaving is part of the change. Filling the hole he leaves will be interesting

I guess it depends if you think Brodie is a top pairing dman

Some for sure, but I think the majority would have liked it. I know I would have.

Brodie is better all around dman though.

Barrie is good on the PP and with the puck but his defensive zone play and shot suppression metrics are bad.

I’d take Brodie every day of the week. He was here so long that people look at all his flaws and give him no credit for how good he is.

I've been telling every leafs fan that he would be amazing for Reilly and their defense corps...but man I hate when players that i like come to Toronto

best of luck TJ, I'll still be cheering for you!

are the Leafs done?

Does this pave the way for Pietrangelo to Vegas?

I think they would have been delighted to give Brodie this contract, sans a NMC.

I don't have a lot of confidence in the way Treliving has built the team. Will the new pieces mesh?!

I wouldn’t be surprised if by the end of next season Brodie will be regarded as the Leafs best defenseman.
