Mayhaps Carolina came swooping in with big dollars driving up the price? Such intrigue

I’d be ok with Crawford as well, it’s not like Markstrom makes us contenders right away anyways.

Remember when Markstrom was signing in Calgary for $4.5M/4 years? Those were simpler times.

IF it is 7 years, that's 31 through 37

I dunno, if he can take Vancouver to the 2nd round he can probably drag Tkachuk and co to the WCF

The Flames could use a d-man, too. Hoping this deal gets done so the Flames can focus on their other needs.
Imagine the hold up is the Flames are in on Pietrangelo?

He's a good negotiator when he has leverage, ie, in RFA negotiations.
For UFA deals, he tends to pay a premium.

Mackenzie is awesome, but that doesn't mean that every single thing he speculates is exactly right

Yes but my point is that if Mckenzie is saying these numbers then they are coming from somewhere. This isn't Eric Francis, if McKenzie is speculating term and dollars to everyone, that's the numbers he's getting from his sources.
The fact that you'd just take one of the best and most reliable hockey guys out there and just assume he's wrong because "that's not how it works" is, as i said, bold of you.
What I take away from what Mackenzie said is simply the AAV will be around 6, and that Markstrom wants 7 and Flames may be willing to go 6. The final numbers will simply come around these ranges unless something changes and another side get more leverage.

Regardless.. that term is obviously a legitimate concern for the Flames, as it should be.

OIlers have about $4-4.5M left and need to re-sign Bear and then two more defensemen to go with him. Even if they push two kids into the lineup they are left with $3M to sign Bear. They aren't a player for anything at the moment.

I have been extremely anti-Markstrom.
But I actually think Markstrom + Hall could make the Flames potential contenders for this year.
I just hate the long term consequences.

If Markström already declined that offer and ended negotiations with Edmonton I would be surprised if he then went back to them that the same deal is still on the table.

Close but not exactly. Goals saved above expectation per minute is what I use. Should be closely correlated to goals saved above average but is more accurate in appropriate sample sizes I've found. With the caveat this is goalies we are talking about here so any talk of accuracy is somewhat amusing in itself.

Aren't they both in a similar position? Who is the Flames plan B?
I don't know that Markstrom's situation is grave.

I said 'I think' he's wrong.
Great that you think he's infallible, and right on the money with all things that aren't yet knowable. And sorry that the fact that I don't agree with him here upsets you.

That is possible but I see no way that we can afford both unless Johnny gets moved for picks.... We still have Mangiapane to sign and others as well
