Lol no it’s not; buy the last year out in the 7th year?? 4-5 years of peak Markstrom is what this core needs; friggen invest already Tre

If it's 7 it should be under 6 AAV.
Closer to Holtby's number.
If they get their 6 years then I'm fine with 6 per.

Just hope Treliving isn't the one getting cold feet. Wouldn't that just be the Treliving story all these years? Failure to pull the trigger on a #1 goalie.

2018-19: 24th (Gibson, Binnington, Bishop)
2017-18: 19th (Grubauer, Raanta, Bobrovsky)
2018-2020: 17th (Khudobin, Lehner, Binnington)
2017-2020: 17th (Grubauer, Gibson, Khudobin)
Obviously you hope last season is what you are signing up for, but worst case you're getting an over-paid but average starter. Pretty good floor and hope you get the giant ceiling in a couple seasons.
(As an aside, still annoyed the Flames missed out on Khudobin and Grubauer previously, both of whom I had recommended as good-bet signings/trades)

If Markstrom gets the extra year, it will not be a t full freight

If you can use the 7th year as a carrot to bring the AAV down a bit, then fine. Buy out/trade/bury the last year if it really comes down to it, worth it to actually have a #1 goalie for this core

I'm starting to get the feeling that this deal is falling through the cracks. This should not take this long, it was rumored to be done hours ago.

Think the first one is goals saved above average courtesy of Natural Stat Trick (it's bad that I can identify those rankings just based on how much I've been looking at Natural Stat Trick lately)

He's been a free agent for less than 3 hours, some negotiations take months. It's a little early to be worrying about it falling apart

Nah, there is so much smoke because they are ironing out the details and no other teams are involved.

And another edition of goalies are voodoo: check out the glove versus blocker sides in back-to-back seasons. Who the #### knows with goalies, man. Could be a team effect, too.

Had an idea!

Why do we have a problem paying $6 million for a #1 goalie?

It’s very difficult for us to factor, into the offer, that there is zero acquisition cost.
If he had 2 or 3 years left on his contract , what would the Canucks get offered?....2 or 3 1st round picks? 2 firsts and a couple of seconds?
What is the monetary value of those picks?
That’s why high end UFAs get the extravagant salaries and term that they , inevitably, do.

It's a process.
Other teams don't have such obstacles so they move much quicker.
