I don't know anything about this player, haven't even heard of him, and for that reason I hate this pick, why couldn't they pick someone I have heard of.
Plus he is a defenceman who hasn't put up like 50 points a season since he was 5, who wastes a draft pick on that ugh

Might have been the Flames did a personal interview and nobody else did. Or only a handful of teams.

Believe so. Hard to tell as they were speaking to him over speaker phone from Steinbergs cell and just holding it to the microphone but he said they had multiple calls with him and he also spoke to the Flames psychologist. Said it was the team he was hoping to land on.
Also said he tries to model his game off of Seth Jones.

I thought he said Saint Johns when I heard it and I wasn't sure who that was.

I love this pick. I get that people are disappointed with selloff Wotherspoon and Kanzig but those guys weren't as highly touted as this guy and scouts are much more cautious about big defensive defensemen these days. I like that he's considered a good skater AND considered one of the smartest defensive players in the draft. A physical top 4 defenseman is fast becoming a rare luxury in this league. Good risk/reward IMO.

He is going to love balmy Calgary at least.
I'm glad that if we are picking a Russian in the 2nd round that he has already made the move to North America. It's unlikely he would be a flight risk since he already committed to the move.
