You're too kind. Something I don't see coming, to mimic the OEL trade would be fantastic.

I think with such a small sample size that it is more likely to be a coincidence than pointing to an actual factor.
As someone who has long advocated for continuing Rittich's development in Calgary, I agree. But again, I am not comfortable with insisting on this as necessary without a clear understanding of the reason for the phenomenon. Even a working theory would be better than nothing, which is what we have right now.
It was more than just a bad game. Talbot was solid in the play-in, but mostly as a result of how well the Flames were pushing the Jets to the outside and eliminating chances. Listen to Bingo's and Jiri's discussion about goalies in the last CP Radio instalment, and I think this makes a very good case for a needed change: Talbot's fundamentals are okay, but not great. He is a blocking goalie who plays the angles, but is often victimized by good shooters in HD scoring areas. If the Flames want to succeed, then they need a more talented goalie—it is as simple as that. Maybe Rittich is that goalie, but if not, then this is an issue which will continue to persist until it is resolved. That only happens by way of a trade—which expends more assets, through free agency, or by simply waiting and hoping that Wolfe is eventually that guy.

If nothing else, I've enjoyed reading your opinions without any verbal abuse. That's a nice change from the normal around here. As it is, I'll live with our present goalies while we improve at Centre & RW. I would definitely move Gaudreau because I don't see any other way to improve.I

I can't imagine how the Canucks can make this work. They might be able to balance out cap for this year, but when they really need the cap space they're going to be in big trouble if they pick up OEL.
If I were a GM I'm this league, I have no obligation to bail out the Coyotes from the financial mess they are in. They are the ones who have to trade this player.

Which is why every time I say an offer it is almost an exact copy of the Kelser and Luongo deals from years ago.
Bottom 6/Bottom pairing roster player, cap dump, middling pick/prospect.
Arizona cannot hold onto OEL. They cannot afford him. They are literally struggling to meet current economic requirements, let alone once the season is on and having to pay salaries again. They have to move this player, but they gave OEL an NMC and in turn they now only have two teams they can play ball with. Like Luongo with Tampa/Florida and Kesler with Anaheim/Pittsburgh. In both deals, the Canucks got: a bottom 6/bottom pairing roster player, a cap dump and a middling pick/prospect.

Flames give up $9.35M and take on $13.5M? There would have to be another salary heading Philly's way, or a 1st round pick coming back with that deal. The other alternative is for the Flyers to retain 20% of Voracek's contract ($1.65M), and then 30% of Gostisbehere ($1.35) making it almost square on salaries. Voracek at $6.6M and Gostisbehere at $3.15 is very palatable, especially when you get Frost in the deal. Find some way to move Lucic and you can still afford Hall and then have a pretty formidable lineup. I would be pretty happy if they could make those moves.

Friedman believes Bennett is not being traded and is a “real big part” of what the team does going forward.
Friedman on Gaudreau: (paraphrasing) “if he makes that trade, it’s going to make sense to all of us why he made that trade”, and this trade makes no sense because it’s awful value for Calgary.

The hockey fan trade paradox: It’s dumb to trade a player when he’s playing poorly because his value is low. But you’re crazy to trade someone when he’s playing well.

I don't know you, but I hope you get a cold sore.
Edit- As an aside, people are now talking as though it is Vancouver or bust for OEL. Either Boston dropped or OEL has removed Boston from his list. Talks is Vancouver now has all the leverage in this deal.

I seriously doubt Friedman knows what is going on in Calgary. For Bennett to be "a real big part" of what the does going forward the team has to be goddamn sure he's going to repeat his playoff performance and not his regular season performance. Sadly, we've been in this exact same spot twice before and we know how both of those instances played out. A smart person recognizes these trends and hedges their bets, not go all in on a high risk hand. If what Friedman says is true, Treliving is pushing in the very last of his chips, and doing so one some real sketchy cards.

They won’t find some way to move Lucic though. His NMC and huge contract have him stuck here and if he is somehow moved it is not with a pile of cap space coming back to Calgary

Gaudreau + Lucic for Voracek, Ghost, and Frost is the only I would be okay with that trade. Even I would be iffy.

Apparently on TSN 1040, Matt Sekeres said that he knows for a fact that Markstrom told his agent under no circumstances will he sign in Edmonton or Detroit, but he does have interest in signing in Calgary(as well as Colorado or Toronto), but top priority is Vancouver.
LOL.
Stupid Oilers.

Beyond it just being Edmonton, and the terrible Oilers franchise, there could not possibly be a worst goalie job in the league. Who would sign up for that? Are you ready to face 40+ unimpeded shots on goal per night and get blamed when your team loses???
