I think that has more to do with the fact that 3/4 final teams play the 1-1-3. Hope that trend doesn't catch on next year.

Unless you specifically game plan for a guy, I don’t know why this would get in anyone’s heads. Like with Gio - no one game plans for Gio, they just knew he was tough to play against. So then when it turns out he’s not in the lineup the other team would just be happy.

Even if it’s a guy you might game plan for - like maybe a McDavid or perhaps a Gaudreau, if he’s out, that’s a net win.
