I have been trying to play around with the numbers and assets and am having a hard time fitting the pieces in. If the Flames add Kuemper, Hall, OEL they are looking at 20-21M of incoming cap.

Assets I see going out in that trade:

Hanifin (4.95)
Ryan (3.15)
19th overall

As much as people want to call OEL a pure cap dump he is still going to have positive value in a trade.

Gaudreau could likely be traded to New Jersey for strictly picks and prospects which eliminates 6.75M from the cap. There is still a $7M difference in cap to make up. I wonder if the Flames would consider moving Monahan or Backlund to make it all fit?

I always laugh that Jaybo is good enough for team Canada and the best D ever assembled but not for the Flames apparently...he was good enough for the Blues too go figure. Maybe we should have put all the blame on the new guy.

You’re entitled to your opinion. We’ve tried adding players from the outside that hasn’t panned out. Trade for this guy, we will have a rock solid d. Trade for this guy, we need a culture carrier.

By trying to short cut the rebuild, we’ve missed out on opportunities to draft high End talent And develop it. Keep changing coaches. Same result. Change players. Same result. What aren’t we doing that successful teams are? Is the playing field so slanted against Canadian teams succeeding? I don’t know.

One line that stood out from the game tonight. Some players get you to the playoffs, others get you through the playoffs. Need to identify and draft/acquire these players. Probably requires some pain but not sure if ownership/management are prepared to take steps.

Talks like he knows people in the organization and this move is happening. OEL wants to be in Edmonton and not Calgary.

I can’t see any realistic way we can fit all 3 without making serious sacrifices elsewhere.

Just roll with Hall and Kuemper and keep Gaudreau. Hanifin brings basically the same game as OEL for a fraction of the price.

That guy can’t string a sentence together, but I suppose we are talking about Oiler fans.

He also claims the Flames are sending the 19th OA pick to ARZ for Kuemper. Also some lovely bits about how drafting Broberg (awful pick) made Klefbom or Nurse expendable which is why they’re trading Nurse for OEL - follow the logic in that. “We drafted a LHD who is awful, so Klefbom or Nurse are expendable - so we’re trading Nurse for OEL!”

...that is some Oilers-ass logic.
