This quote makes absolutely no sense. Is Treliving known for trading elite offensive players for Dmen?
Wouldn’t a 1st and 2 2nds for Dumba be “such a Treliving trade”?

It'd definitely be a Tree move with the picks.
...but at least he would have improved over the years. Dumba >>> Hamonic.
...freaking Hamonic trade was so stupid.
I do look at Tree's off-seasons back then as addressing issues in a big way though. He needed to build defensive depth, and he did it. Hamilton, Hamonic, Stone, Kylington, and Andersson all snagged within a year of each other.
He has to "get back to work" and start executing. The next month is huge (tentatively the Draft is October 7th, Free Agency is October 9th last I saw)

I think dumba would be a great pickup and fits a need for us, but I'm not sure minny would cough him up for a decent price to us. Hanifin is more valuable than dumba imo.

I like what I've heard about Cozens, but if you're expecting him to play physical (the common complaint against Monahan), is this really the kid to do it?

|
Cozens is physical. He's not a hit anything in site type of guy like Bennett was in these playoffs, but he is aggressive and a strong battler. He joined the Hurricanes as a 15 year old for their playoffs and he was very impressive. He makes things happens and doesnt shy away.

Thinking Jost or Lias Andersson.
Theres cap space for that type of thing.

Really? What does that team's defence, and goaltending look like?

He is also only 19 years old with a solid 6'3" frame to build on. Pro-level nutrition and trainers can put some nice muscle on him yet.

I know you like the kid but he did not join the team at 15!

The Lethbridge Hurricanes is what I believe he is referring to, and he did join them at 15.

Yes he did. He joined the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the playoffs during his 15 year old season, after his home team's season was completed.

15/16 season. Joined the team at the end of the year. Played 3 regular season games and 12 playoff games.

I guess if you wanted to get literal, Cozens was literally 16 when he joined the team.
But for aging purposes it was technically his 15 year old season. He couldn't play full time for the Hurricanes that season until his Yale season was done or on an emergency call up basis because it was his 15 year old season.

What do you think determines where a guy is picked?
Nobody is picking guys top 3 because they think they could be good 3rd liners or maybe hustle their way into a handful of NHL games, they’re picked that high because of the way they play which indicates they could be great NHL players.
Doesn’t mean they will. Byfield is no exception. I think odds are he’ll be a #1 center in the league based on how he plays and his physical makeup but I understand it’s not a sure thing.

So what are we arguing about? I guess the "definitely" word, as far as the draft goes in any year, my point is he seems like more of a sure thing than most based on watching him play

Completely agree with this! Although I think we should get a 3rd coming our way as well to make up the difference in age and cap hit. I really think there’s a lot more to gain than what can be measured by your trade proposal and picking up Hall because of them being local guys who can be difference makers.
Having just that extra bit of heart invested in this Calgary Flames team to win could be huge for us. Make it happen Tre!

Has there ever been any indication that Buffalo is open to trading Cozens? He is a pretty high end prospect

Plus he’s a Yukon kid, extra toughness right off the bat.

If we could swing Monahan + 19th for Cozens + 8th while also trading Giordano and Ryan for futures and prospects as well we could open up a considerable amount of cap space allowing us to extend Gaudreau while bringing in Hall and Lehner among others potentially.
I really hope to see some creativity this off-season to see the Flames finally take a true swing at it and that includes landing a coach like Gallant or Laviolette. Here’s to hoping!

Hanifin-Andersson
Valimaki-Dumba
Gio-depth D
Yelesin.
Plus mackey and pool man on the farm. And Lerby, and Kinvaall. And Valiev.

Our D would be pretty thin with Gio, Brodie, Gustafson and Forbort gone potentially.

Purely speculation based on the fact Eichel is getting tired of losing and he is their most valuable trade chip
