You really think the american government cares of NBA players don't play? Right now they are on national TV every night...end the season then what?

this boycott is making bigger headlines than any NBA game could ever make. And it certainly is making bigger headlines than any "#BlackLivesMatter" on a jersey or court could ever make.

maybe, but I think that's a cynical way to look at it. You never know which sort of dialogue and movement such protests can lead to, and I take that over "the show must go on" any day.

For a couple days...

"Millionaire athletes boycott playing kids game" is how the GOP will spin it

doesn't change any minds IMO...Most Trumpers/far rights are probably happy they aren't playing. The current US government doesn't give a flying F about the NBA

The deplorables won't be turned. They don't matter because they're not the majority anyway. It's about getting the message to those in the middle, those are still silent.

I think it’s a very powerful statement, especially with Milwaukee being the team to boycott. There’s more important things that effect them going on back home.

Shockingly, you can actually feel two (or more even!) different things at once.

Of course you can.

I was alluding more to the fact that for me personally the plight of Adam Silver tonight is not something that will even come close to crossing my mind.

change would never happen if we all just said "meh, what's the point?". You need action if you actually do want to change something, and it just happens that these players have a platform to do this. They have my admiration for it.

As for the Trumpists, you can't convince those anyway.

Well I'm sure the shut up and dribble crowd will love to hate this. But from my vantage point I think it's a very powerful statement that I hope doesn't fall on deaf ears. But as long as the GOP is in power I have a feeling those earplugs ain't coming out.

If he mismanages this situation, the league could suffer irreparable harm. As a basketball fan I don't envy his predicament. He's done mostly good, and yet it could all come undone.

There are more than two options...its not boycott or meh

I don't think this will be effective...they shut down the bubble playoffs and they won't have a platform anymore. And what is the message? we wont play Bball unless what? change?

If Trump wins again are they going to cut 4 years off their careers?

On the flip side they painted themselves into a corner...if the games are just rescheduled it just means another few nights in a luxury hotel, big sacrifice losing ZERO dollars

I support the move. More needs to be done because things are getting worse, not better.

We are steamrolling towards civil unrest, like in the 60s. Maybe it'll be worse this time.

If boycotting some basketball games can help, then great. Let's do it.

Guys, this isn’t about that it’s the right thing to do. It’s about what’s effective and what definitive steps they are wanting the owners to take up with their politicians. That’s the part that gets to me. It’s a game and there’s more to life than a sport but if you’re going to take a stand such as this, you may as well give the owners a week and call them out as a whole and say, “we want you to publicly say what steps and who you’ve met in local government to ask for change, and what steps they’ve promised. If you don’t, we’ll walk out.” Walking out on a whim without goals comes across as disorganized. Heart in a good place but it’s an opportunity lost with a league who hasn’t silenced anyone (except if there’s a strong position on China) .

Yes! Should have been done before going to the bubble in the wake of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. But now the NBA has already put in the work to create the bubble, a great atmosphere, and a great platform for messaging and support. So it makes it appear like they were fine with it, until this latest shooting.
