I don't think they trade Gio but I would not be sad about it if they got a decent return.

Tree with some pretty strong words defending Johnny.
If Johnny is really an option here long term, that’s a game changer in my eyes.

Man, what I wouldn't give to have playoff Sam Bennett for even 60 games each regular season. What a beast!

I liked what Bennett said today. Him saying that he wants the opportunity/ice-time, and then it’s on him to take advantage of it.
I think he’s earned that opportunity to start next season. From there, it’s on you Benny!

Andersson was arguably the Flames' best or 2nd best D-man, and Bennett was by far the best playoff player for them once again despite playing the last 8 games with significant injuries.
Yea, trade that #93 plug...

I don't think Bennett is a plug at all but what if this is the peak of his value? That's my main question. This might be the last summer where you can trade Bennett with teams still looking at him for top-six or top-line potential.
I think that's a very reasonable question. Obviously the best-case is Bennett comes back next year still looking like a top-six C. But that's hardly a given.

|
If you want to change the culture though, that would do it.
Move the captaincy to Tkachuk without having to strip the existing captain by moving Giordano for futures, and using his money to retain Brodie and add other pieces.

Nothing in this sport is a given.
Team could tear it down and finish 31st overall and be one of the worst regular season teams in recent history and still only draft 4th overall.
Bennett is a great teammate, and he’s earned himself a chance. No reason to not take that “risk” with him next year. Particularly because his underlying numbers have always shown there’s something there, it just never translated into offence...I think we have enough evidence for a little optimism to think that may be changing.
Love Benny.

I can agree with this, but I also look at how the Flames traded Micheal Ferland at a peak of his value and managed to turn one more year of him and three years of Dougie into six years each of a top-line forward and a young top-four dman.

Treliving loves Benny as well. He will always be the first pick Treliving made as GM and he has these flashes that show why he was picked so high.
I was so pumped when the Flames landed Bennett and I foolishly cheered we got him over Draisaitl. This year was the final year for me and when he gets 8 goals I was ready to move on. Seeing him show up and beast in the playoffs with a move to center wants me to give him another shot.
I was always a believer that Bennett will pan out to a top 6 forward but I became convinced it wasn’t going to happen here. After this run I hold out a glimmer of hope it could still happen when he is in a Flames Jersey

If they added Hall and didn't make any other changes, it would most likely be Lucic that gets pushed out of the top 9
JG - SM - EL
TH - MB - MT
DD - SB - AM
If you're argument is that Hall bumping Mangiapane down to the 3rd line doesn't improve the team, well I disagree
|
I think what he meant is Kadri was moved for money because they signed Tavares, who didn't provide what they needed, which was Kadri. Was TO any better with Tavares over Kadri? You need to have the grinders with skill, like Kadri etc.

No Lindholm injury? Not as impressed with him.
Rasmus playing hurt is a shocker. I like that guy.

I don't know why it matters what Treliving says. It is the job of the GM to not tip his hand. Don't let it known that you're going to trade a player before you start talking about it. Don't let the other teams lessen their offers because you seem desperate to get rid of that player.
Also, so what if Treliving doesn't provide shock value? Not very many GMs or coaches do. You want shock value comments? Go watch WWE or UFC.
Somebody who defends his players is somebody who the players like to be around and play for. Two or three years from now some player, no matter how significant the signing, may remember that Treliving didn't speak bad of Johnny and not have any doubts about re-signing or coming in as a UFA, wheras if he spoke ill of Johnny, or ANY player for that matter, then he'd have a harder time convincing people to come to town, or to stick around.

Treliving defends his players against public criticism pretty consistently. It's a leadership quality and I'm sure the players appreciate it.
It doesn't necessarily reflect the changes he's willing to make, or the feedback he gives them privately.

Unless he's asked already, Steinberg should ask - what style of play does the team need to play in the playoffs in the WC.
Then you ask if he has the team to play that style. It also sheds light on tactics that were used.
How do COL, VGK but also TBL, BOS play? Is CGY style different that he wants to play the same as those elite teams? They don't all play the same but similar -

Sounds like Benny has won himself a job at centre.
Treliving said it would be foolish for them to not acknowledge his performance, and that they’ll assess how that changes things going forward.

After reading these quotes and having time to digest another unsuccessful playoffs I think, depending on who becomes the head coach, I’d give the core of this group one more shot to get it done. Obviously some changes will be made and the heat is on Tre to see if he can make some quality improvements in the offseason. I’d love a Boudreau/Laviolette/Gallant hiring, a Brodie extension and acquiring a #1 goaltender to start.
