Can we give a mini shout out to Quine? We lose Tkachuk, but we still won because we played just fine with Quine coming in. Even got an assist that game with only 6 minutes of ice time. I would welcome him back with a 1 year, 1-way contract with low $'s.

Assuming we move on from Jankowski, would love the forward lineup next year as this:

Gaudreau/Hall - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Bennett - Dube
Quine - Ryan - Rieder

Merely winning isn't enough without checks across the board for style points.

Just imagine how dissatisfied those posters would be three plus rounds deep into the '04 run where the Flames were far from perfect or dominant within the games. Some would've grilled them for game 7 in vancouvwr for giving up the tying goal with five seconds left. Awful, flawed team.

Fluff aside, there's no style points for playoff wins. Maybe get over your nit picking issues and try to enjoy even an iota of this. It can be fun if you let it be.

Don't know why some are trying so hard to manifest losses that haven't happened yet by focusing on how everything will DEFINITELY go wrong.
What I would like to see? Consistency, effort, possession, poise. We can't currently answer what kind of team the Flames are - a fast attack? Transitional attack? Possession? Who knows? Depends on the night because the mood, the intensity, everything varies with every game. Does the team have a "style"? No. It's a hodge podge. Watching 2 games against Dallas, you could say "Ahh, here is how Dallas wins."

I feel like I didn't even notice Quine last night, which maybe is a good thing for a 4th liner? I dunno.

Well, he only had 6 minutes of ice time, which is like 2/3 shifts a period. But, the small sample size really shows that he can stick in the NHL. Continuously lights it up in the AHL.

If they get by the Stars thats not going to cut it against the Knights or even the Canucks/Blues.

Not trying to be a debbie downer but you have to call it like it is.

Pretty much this.

I also find it tiresome when people keep saying things like "if they played Colorado or Vegas"... Newsflash, we're not playing them right now, we're playing against Dallas, and we're up 2 - 1 in the series. No one knows who the possible next opponent will be at this point, and how we'll match up against them. Maybe they'll be crippled with injuries, maybe their goaltender will crap the bed, maybe they'll just be tired or won't take us seriously or their stars will be snakebitten or maybe we'll just be lucky or happen to play our best games in a decade against them. Anything can happen, and no opponent is perfect or plays perfect all the time either.

Yeah, you can only play your opponent. No point looking ahead. Bottom line, Dallas was a round Robin team for a reason. They play a disciplined defensive game that doesnt leave a lot of room out there, need to earn your space and limit mistakes. Flames are the underdog or lower seed here, every game is going to be a battle.

Real happy they squeaked out a win in game 3. The whole point is you need four of them, however they come.

But I also think it's pretty fair to admit that they will need to play better. If Flames can't play any better than game 3, it's going to be very difficult to find two more wins in this series.

Part of me can't help but wonder what the 2017 team would have done had they had the goaltending Talbot has provided. I think at worst...they would have been 2-2 with Anaheim and maybe even up 3-1. In the second they didn't have the puck...but they were very disciplined in not panicking and keeping the higher danger down.

For a team who were 2-12 in their previous round of 16 playoff games, there wasn't a single one of those where you could say their goaltender won the game for them. Even the win against Colorado last year in game 1, Smith was good, but the team as a whole played well enough in front of him. So to win 2 games in a series and have the goaltender pretty much deliver one of them is a nice change.

No doubt a bit of luck, but don't underestimate wins like this. I remember Detroit being all over the Flames in game 5 of that 04 series. Flames won that game 1-0 and that was pretty much the series.

I still have PTSD from watching Elliot blow that series the way he did.

I wonder if we can get through this round without the top line going off. If they do, it could make johnny realise he doesn't have to do everything and relax a little. Could help his game and grow his presence in the next round.

Just a thought on the sunny side

Trust me i've learned this lesson under difficult circumstances during the course of the pandemic, unfortunately. If they win great, if they lose its ok too, much more important things in life.

However I just call it the way I see it, not everybody is going to agree. Concerned about the fact the ice was extremely tilted in the favour of Dallas last night, after the effort that was put forth in game 2. Concerned that the 1st line still cant get anything going offensively in pressure tight checking playoff hockey. Ultimately I want to see them win the cup, so instead of looking at it like "hey great they pulled it out tonight", I'm thinking about whether this is the team that can go all the way and beat some of the top tier teams in the league. I guess you can make a case for looking at it both ways.

I'm certainly happy for the win, but not happy the goalie had to steal it.

Hopefully despite winning the Flames still have some serious push back in game 4.

I'm happy we have a goalie playing well enough to steal a game

What player on the ice last night was more deserving of a win than Talbot? The Stars players deserved a win for almost scoring and shooting wide?

A goalie stealing a couple games is how you win the Cup. You need that at least once or twice in a 4 round grind.

I'm happy that we are up 2-1 in the series, despite the fact that we aren't firing on all cylinders yet.

I am also very happy that we don't have the 2nd best goalie in the series like we usually do.

This is exactly it. If you really want to win the Stanley cup, you’re going to have to win in all sorts of different ways and in different types of games. 89 and 04 wouldn’t have been the great years they were without goalies stealing a game or two. Take them however you can get them and focus on the next one.
