Tulsi Gabbard voted "present" at the impeachment hearings, she sued Hillary Clinton, threatened to boycott debates, and praises Bashar al-Assad - she was never going to be chosen. She's had some unique and more libertarian policy choices.

I think she was picked more to appeal to old men who like their women to be vacuous idiots.

Exactly. Gabbard is more of a Trump supporter than a Democrat. She loves her some authoritarians. Pro-Assad and Pro-Putin, she is all for taking an isolationist stance and surrendering global leadership to Russia and China. Not a person I want anywhere near a leadership role.

I do wish the democratic party had more of a youth pipeline. Pelosi, Biden, Warren, Sanders, etc are all very old. Hopefully we can see more like Mayor Pete, AOC, etc in the coming years. But it takes time to groom future leaders, so I honestly peg this more on the Democratic party of 10 or 20 years ago for not seeing this coming. When Pelosi took over the house in 06, she had Hoyer, Clyburn, Lewis, etc as her leadership and they were already pretty aged at the time, and since then, there seems to have been no grooming done for younger leaders to replace them. It's the same debate the party had when dems came back in power last year. Should Pelosi still be the one leading and what is the succession plan.

With all that said, I don't think its some sort of conspiracy or lack of embrace of the progressive wing. It's just the way it is. Hopefully they can start to sort out the problem.
Well, Ilhan Omar just won her primary, joining AOC and Rashida Tlaib of the squad.

The problem with that question is that it's impossible to verify why people actually voted or didn't vote for someone.

Even if you ask directly ask someone, it's hard to know for sure if they answer honestly, and even if they do, it's impossible to know which of the reasons they gave had any real significance, and which reasons they didn't mention.

It's well studied for example that the look of the candidate is really important, but very few people will say that "I voted for that guy because he's tall and has a friendlier smile than the other guy".

It's also impossible to pinpoint a single reason for any such decision, because there's never one single reason for anything.

I wonder how many are using the "She's so well spoken" racist tribe to describe Harris so far, that one is so often brought up with Black politicians, it was used a lot on Obama.

Standing side by side with Biden and Trump - she does come across as extremely well-spoke, however.

We are victims of circumstance with this one. The comment 'She's so well spoken' is on point considering her comparisons, but people will be afraid to say it for fear of the racial connotations.

Historically, black voters have been found to not vote more or less so based on the race of a candidate. On top of that, 85 to 90% of black voters are already polling to prefer Biden to Trump. I feel like you can never get 100% of the vote in anything so choosing a VP for that reason seems like not such a good idea.

Indeed. The future pipeline should be bright with members of the squad. However, they need time to become leaders of the party and experienced in their craft. I have more issue with the DNC of 10 or 15 years ago not having done a better job at finding candidates like this that would now already be in good positions to take over for the old guard.

Done a better job? DNC will try to defeat them at every opportunity spending millions of dollars.

Trump full on admitting that he's intentionally sabotaging the postal service in order to prevent mail-in voting.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/busin...ballots-dejoy/

Quote:
President Trump says the U.S. Postal Service is incapable of facilitating mail-in voting because it cannot access the emergency funding he is blocking, and made clear that requests for additional aid were nonstarters in coronavirus relief negotiations.

Trump, who has been railing against mail-in balloting for months, said the cash-strapped agency’s enlarged role in the November election would perpetuate “one of the greatest frauds in history.” Speaking Wednesday at his daily pandemic news briefing, Trump said he would not approve $25 billion in emergency funding for the Postal Service, or $3.5 billion in supplemental funding for election resources, citing prohibitively high costs.

“They don’t have the money to do the universal mail-in voting. So therefore, they can’t do it, I guess,” Trump said. “Are they going to do it even if they don’t have the money?”

Trump’s remarks came hours after congressional Democrats intensified calls for more oversight of the agency and the new postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, a major Republican donor and Trump ally.

this was always going to happen...

but sadly, the spineless sycophants of the GOP stand around staring at their shoes because no one has the guts to call out the administration.

Democrats and the free press should be hammering the drum about this every single day.

Also, seeing QAnon welcomed into the GOP is pretty disgusting; only GOP on the way out, there are a few exceptions, have called them out as a major, major concern for the 'conservative' movement.

I don’t think it’s so much that they are staring at their shoes as it is that the GOP wants this. It was never about the constitution, it was never about following the law, it was and always has been about holding on to power. Trump is the symptom not the cause.

But don’t worry the Lincoln project has some funny ads and whenever trump is gone they’re definitely not going to go right back to doing the same thing but in the background instead of out in the open.

Fine by me. That was way less stressful.

I think this is true, but the thing to watch is whether Harris helps with turnout. The "Obama Coalition" stayed home last time.

Seems the Harris pick was a winner.

Any suggestion this will blunt the support of progressives is not supported by early polling.

I'm not saying the polling is a lie, but it's rare for a campaign to not get a bump after the VP choice/convention. Speaking of Palin, that was the only time the McCain campaign was really close in the polls was after she was named VP and the convention a few days later.

However, shared concerns over Iran's regional influence have led to a unofficial contacts between them.
