Think of all of that work in training camp...for this.
Toews and Kane sent them all home without even breaking a sweat.
|
Toews and Kieth especially couldn't believe their luck when they were included in this tournament. The old guard there missed the playoffs the last 3 years and haven't had a sniff in 5 years.
Toews, Kane, Saad, Kieth and Crawford all are playing like they are 25 again just by virtue of what one of the broadcasters called a "mulligan".
The Oilers gapping holes in the roster aside did anyone else see McDavid and RNH in their closing interview? Someone else noted McDavid was wearing nothing with any Oilers colors or logos. He mumbled answers and looked off to his right constantly between every question. RNH was better at his answers and just wore it better.
Biggest mistake that Mgt has made, in long chain of blunders, is making that kid Captain. He sucks as a Captain and I think the rest of them know it. Even if RNH was a bad choice hes still 10x better a choice for their Captain than McDavid. Just a dumb and arrogant move really. McDavid needed to be led not lead and he still does.

the beauty of RNH contract coming up is they will overpay him like they overpay everyone who plays there or they will let him go for cap savings. While i am not a fan of the Tenderness, he is at least a decent NHL player, something they wont get with the cap savings as nobody decent will go there, they might get James Neal quality FA's that go if they are overpaid. Either way its good.

Tychkowski has to be the lone media person covering the team that's not on the Oilers payroll. He's not immune to the kool-aid but he will actually criticize them on occasion.

I can't wait for them to overpay a goalie while ignoring the fact that the defense in front of the goalie is an even bigger issue.

I'm curious to see what their big plan is to try and fix the failboat they've built. Buy out Neal and Kostinem and back a dump truck full of money up to Lehner's house?
The last thing I expect them to do is actually address their putrid defense. The propaganda group has fans and media convinced they're sitting on a pile of Giordanos, so I'm guessing management just has no plan there.

They might make a play for Hamonic, although I suppose Winnipeg is also in desperate need.

Don't forget the 3rd they gave up in the Neal deal!!!
That's two 2nds, a 3rd, a 4th, and a 5th for bupkis.
Green and Ennis are UFAs and Athanasiou is an RFA who would need to be qualified at $3 million (yes, that much) and ALSO has arbitration rights!!!
So basically, none of those guys are likely to be back, and they're still stuck with Neal for 3 more years at $5.75 million, PLUS tacking on the $750K retained for Milan Lucic over the same time frame, so essentially $6.5 million for James ####ing Neal. He's their 4th highest paid player. Think on that for a moment. If they buy him out, they're hit for almost $2 million for 6 more years. A-maz-ing.
So, in the end, they bleed out picks (5 in total, mostly of the higher end variety), they lose players, and they ruin their cap management.
Edit: had to throw in Kassian for another 4 years at $3.2 million. LMAO!!!
Oh Ken Holland, please stay there as long as you like. You've become Chia 2.0.
Life has been pretty brutal the last few months, but I am truly, truly thankful for all of this. The universe is correcting itself, starting with the Oilers. They will be, forever and always, No Good.

If you were Hamonic, from the Winnipeg area, rumored to want to be closer to family in recent years, and had relatively equal offers from both the Oilers and Jets, who would you pick?
The Jets have cap to burn and have all of Morrisey, Pionk and Poolman for defensemen next year. OF COURSE they're going to pick up Hamonic, and I'll be happy for both parties involved as well.

Good sense of humour too, dude is hilarious. I've been following him on Twitter for a while now.
On a side note, I'm in Edmonton until the end of August. The past 24 hrs have been glorious! Got the Flames car flag going, and Flames t-shirt on my evening walks..just to remind them we still in it while they pack up to go home . I love being here when we have the upper hand in the BoA hahaha

I still think Holland will feel obligated to qualify Athanasiou. If for no other reason than that he gave up two second round picks for him.

Except he appears to have deleted his post trolling Calgary right before the Oilers epic collapse against the Ducks in 2017.

Honestly Oiler fans should just walk away, pretend Katz actually moved the team to Seattle & start fresh with the Kraken.
But that would require logic & reason after enabling pathetic failure for the last 1/4 century.
Logic & reason are not the strong suit of the Oilers media, let alone their fans.

Not even a dead bulb in the socket. Next time they should prorate playoff wins so they don’t bother including the Oilers in the playoffs.

Edmonton is a weird breed they always seem to compare their team in any year to the 80s club. Everything they do revolves around that era. You dont see Flames fans comparing today's players to Gilmour Nieuwendyk and Fleury. Or fans of the Islanders Canadiens and Leafs doing it. So odd
