I agree with starting Talbot on Saturday, but man, the first few chances against will be a white knuckle ride.

Hooray! Hockey is back!

Meaningless game. Don’t read in to it too much.

Guys who don’t need to prove themselves didn’t put in full effort.

Although, I guess, Jankowski - I don’t know why he thinks he doesn’t need to show up, though.

Not sure how some folks definitively pick between Talbot’s overcommitment on the first shot of the game (pointed out by an Oiler fan I know) putting him way out of position and Rittich’s bad rebound on that funky play. Either way, it’s not a real game, neither guy was particularly dialed in

That was the game to get in a bit of a rhythm. It’s behind us now

Onward to August 1!

Typical Flames; not great early but they figured it out. Deserved a better outcome than they got, but at least Ward made some adjustments.

Bennett with Lucic and Dube were great. It seems like there is an imaginary Bennett that many complain about on here, and the impressive one that exists in real life.

Great might be a stretch...no points and a bad penalty

Bennett seems to be collectively everything that people think he is.

He lacks the ability to finish, he's undisciplined, and he's frustrating as hell. He also steps up in the playoffs, and brings a momentum changing physicality, and a won't-back-down attitude which are traits generally lacking from the rest of this team.

Maximizing the good out of every player and every line should be the goal. I think Bennett on the 3rd line and Ryan on the 4th line with spot defensive faceoff shifts is a better net positive than with those 2 players reversed, even if Ryan is the better centre and player overall. I think this setup balances the bottom 6 better and allows Bennett and Dube to develop more chemistry.

Anyone catch Cuthbert talking about walking down the river valley and surprised he couldn't see the mountains? It was during the 2nd period and I didn't catch enough of it to tell if he was joking. Either he was trolling Edmonton: “Yeah, the mountains are totally right there. I can practically reach out and grab them. That recruitment video was bull****.”

Bad with geography: “Oh… I already traveled this far west. I wasn’t expecting the mountains to be several hundred miles further. That recruitment video was bull****.”

Or he’s a flat earther. You may as well be back in Toronto trying to get a glimpse of the rockies over the horizon.

Either way, even without the unintentional knock on Edmonton. It was great to have him back.

Why can Chicago beat a team we didn’t? Their defence stinks and their goalie missed training camp. Likely a great matchup for the Oilers.

But they are the Oilers.

God that was predictable.
Mostly perimeter shots.
No body in front ....Edmonton let us stay to the outside.
Zone exits .....somebody please post those stats!!!!
Turnovers.....we ran a bakery last night. Oh oh oh and its all Bennetts fault.
Our goal had it been a meaningful game would have not been allowed ...even thr ref gave tippet extra time FFS and Tippet Dgaf.

Ward said he believes his players want better and sees the sincerity.
Wow Geoff. Really. The players talk talk talk....

We need a coach that's cuts right through the BS . Makes them accountable. At least they played hard for Hartley and the games were entertaining.

Maurice slept well last night . Jets in 3.

Well....glad I got that off my chest....now I can go back to being an ass

Anything can happen in these qualifying rounds but the Oilers looked ready to play last night dominating the first period and putting things on cruise control to win easily 4-1. The Hawks are going to have to come out of the gates on fire to beat them and I'm actually okay with that as I'm terrified of the Oilers possibly getting another 1st overall pick so maybe seeing them lose in the first round of the playoffs isn't the end of the world.
