Hamonic always gave everything he had to this team when he played. True leader and great character guy. Respect his decision and wish him nothing but the best moving forward.

Don't forget his daughter had a serious illness of some kind last year.

That could not have been an easy decision to make. He had a strong career with great earnings. He has no need to risk his or any loved ones health for a job. It’s unfortunate that this is almost handcuffs younger players that have a lot of career and earning to come to not opt out.
Goes with being a vet and older human as well. Have a family or through self experiences your values likely start to lean away from career focused.

I completely understand his decision, and respect it. But his days in Calgary are officially done now

As much as Hamonic fits the "Playoff Warrior" mould, he was the Flames' worst defenseman by every statistical measure last year against Colorado and when you combine that with his two playoff years with the Islanders, he's always been a very bad playoff performer.
Again, 1000% respect his decision but losing him is definitely not a loss for the Playoffs aside from his presence in the locker room.

I think this increases the likelihood that Brodie stays, ultimately.
|
I hope you're right. But was it just me who did a face-palm, when Treliving told the media after signing him, something along the lines of "we're very happy to have signed Brodie - and to have done so at an Excellent Price!" After that I have a feeling Burke or someone told him to tone it down, and subsequent signings he was preaching about a fair deal for both sides. I hope Brodie won't hold that against us, hopefully the way his medical episode was handled was appropriate in Brodie's mind too

Do we know Gustafsson and Talbot are in town?
I don't think I've seen any mention or photos of them.
Tkachuk was the big name but he posted today about being back.

Pretty sure I've seen a picture of Talbot.
Not certain at all about Gus.

Conspiracy theory - Hamonic already has a handshake agreement to sign with the Jets in the offseason and this is part of the deal.

I am guessing this has nothing to do with Hamonic's announcement. Not only is it illegal, I cannot see what good reason the Jets would have for insisting on his opt-out.

Win it for Hammer! They can still let him have his day with the Cup and his kids.

Tre said today all players are in town and accounted for. Also said he expected all to play.

Players have every right to sit out but I would hope if they do they don't get their name anywhere near the cup.

Anyone who plays 41+ regular season games is automatically included on the Cup. Doubt they'd change that rule even for this.

I think his GP this season qualifies him for his name on the cup.

They're definitely not changing the rule. He's on if they win.

What a waste of a 1st and 2 seconds. Tre's biggest and only trade blunder (Not counting Lazar)

I'd add the Bollig trade (Stempniak led the Flames in points, then was traded for a 3rd, and that 3rd was traded for Bollig). The pick was used to draft Matteson Iacopelli, who is a bust.
Other than that, can't complain too much about Treliving's trade record
