He is the first player to officially opt out no? I hope everyone can respect his decision and tbh I completely understand it.

Yup before this Valimaki was about 11th if needed on the depth chart.
We'd have to be in the conference finals and need a player for him to play.

I respect his decison. He wanted to move closer to to Winnipeg because a family member had health issues right? Could very well be he didn't want to risk Covid around that family member. All the best Hammer.

And don't let the door hit you on the way out.
What a waste of a 1st and 2 seconds. Tre's biggest and only trade blunder (Not counting Lazar)

A brave decision given that it will have some impact on how other teams and GMs feel about him as a free agent.
I get that he's not everyone's favourite player but he's certainly a warrior team's tend to need in the playoffs. If the goal is to win a round it might not be a huge loss, but if the goal is to go on a deep playoff run I think it's significant.

Tough loss. A healthy Hamonic in the postseason would have been a pleasure to watch.
Respect his choice though. Couldn’t have been easy.

Hamonic was always an outlier. For some reason I had it in my mind that he'd be the Flames player to opt out.
Respect for the man and his decision. He's a warrior and ultimate team player.

Guy who grew up without a dad and has a daughter potentially at risk decided to not play hockey during a pandemic where several NHL members have already tested positive.
I have no issues with that. Even without the player-specific details. Tough to not be disappointed as a fan, but if I’m being honest, if I were in those players shoes I’m not confident I would be playing.

this guy is huge on analytics so maybe he takes Trav's less-than-stellar Corsi as a personal slight? i have no idea

Hamonic is a play-off warrior. This is NOT good news for the Calgary Flames.
Very disappointed to see the usual crew out to crucify the man, though not surprised.
Good for you, Hammer. A hard-nosed guy like you doesn't make this decision easily. Be well!

He's a warrior, but from what I saw against Colorado last playoffs, I'm happy to have someone more mobile and hungry in that position.

Not going to lie.
I didn't expect him back next season, so this isn't a surprise. I also am confident in this D core without him.
I respect his decision and wish him well. Now we move on.

He was the first, definitely won't be the last. Fare thee well Travis Hamonic, best of luck in your next endeavor.
Also, just to be clear, major respect for opting out..

Although he had played himself into a bottom pair role, he was still a guy who could help the team. Couldn't have been an easy decision, but if he made it, it was the right decision. I am very hopeful this helps the team move on, if there was any doubt.
