So the NBA has chosen their location, assigned hotels, rolled out a 100+ page plan for the bubble etc.
Crickets from the NHL unless I missed something.
I guess it will all be rolled out in one glorious swoop.

God, I hope not. He's been very mediocre, especially considering the new coach bump when Peters was removed. There's so many excellent coaches right now, we've hit the coaching hiring lottery this coming off season, to stick with one head coaching for the first time in the NHL, to okay results would be so ridiculous and so Flames.

Flames fans wanting Ward hired as head coach because he's a good guy and has done okay is just so Flames fans. Man, I hope Brad already has a plan in place for interviewing and hopefully hiring a quality, available coach, if they'll come here.

Nope. He's done everything he can to make this team compete. In fact, I think he's done a great job for not having a franchise player to build around. The only mishaps he has are UFA signings because we keep signing mediocre middle 6 wingers than don't pan out (besides Frolik).

There doesn’t need to be an interview process. There’s some guy sitting in his ranch in Viking that would love to bring the cup back to Alberta.
An elite coach who wants to be here. I’m tired of the “this isn’t a Darryl type team”. The guy knows how to coach, he knows how to properly use and motivate players. He isn’t just going to drive Gaudreau or Monahan away because they aren’t “his type”. This is the guy who as GM acquired high skilled “soft” players like Tanguay, Huselius, Cammalleri, Reinprecht and got the best out of them.
It’s about as easy a decision for Tre to make. Sometimes the easy decision is the right decision.

Darryl is someone I would have supported bringing in if they wanted to try something big when Peters was suddenly out, with a "rest of the year" contract to test the waters.
With a real, off season hire where a multi year contract is handed out, I'd much rather one of the elite coaches that is fresh off coaching. Darryl may adapt, but it's not guaranteed as it's been awhile, plus he's the old school hard ass that seems to becoming less and less effective with each passing season. I'd be wary, personally.

His Coaching hires have left something to be desired. The Hamonic trade was an overpayment. We still don't have a #1 Goalie. There are some other issues that if I mention seem to set off the sensitive folks in here.
Hes far from a bad GM, but is not an elite one either. We were preached to trust the process. Seems the process doesnt really have an end game.

The team did play over .600 hockey and was the top team in the division since he took over. I think there is a case to be made for him staying that has nothing to do with him being a "good guy"
His record wasn't "okay" he had the team over a 100 point pace. You can debate the how and why that's fair.
For me it comes down to these playoffs if they happen...can Ward have these guys ready to rock when it counts.

I remain of the belief that fans are impatient, and it takes a long time to build a championship calibre team. Treliving has been on the job for five years, and has made considerable, demonstrable improvements in his tenure. He has shown a strong willingness to learn and grow from his own mistakes and is quick to make corrections when they do occur. I think people get frustrated with "the process" because they don't often grasp just how long and complicated it can be. It was never going to be a five-year build with a rookie GM. This could be a ten year programme when all is said and done.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sutter has called it a career. He is 61 years old now, soon to be 62. I can't imagine he hasn't had offers the last 3 years and nary a suggestion he was interested in any of them
He enjoys life on the farm a lot and certainly his time with his kids, particularly Chris. He has made his money already as well.
The NHL life is a tough grind at times, particularly as you get older.

LOL at fans are impatient. 1 playoff series win in 16 years. Please dont play that card, it holds no value. Its fine though, hope there is an end game.

Again, no good GM to bring us to finally accepting a proper rebuild. You can thank Treliving for what he has done, could have been a lot worse if we had someone else who was impatient.
Also, the playoff series aren't on Treliving. In fact, he's done everything in his power to assemble a roster to win playoff series. It's the players that aren't playing up to par. Hopefully that changes this decade.

NHL.com article Jets training camp preview
A couple of things stood out Scheifele 12 goals in 11 away playoff games.
The Jets had the 6th best goals against in the league from Jan. 1-March 12, 2.65
It dropped to 2.10 for the last 20 games after the all star game.

The Flames were a top-five scoring team in that same timeframe, and the #2 scoring team since All Star weekend.

Don't let a hot goaltender convince you a team was solid defensively.
The Jets from January 1st to the league schedule suspension (your timeline) were the following 5 on 5
20th in CF%
30th in xGF%
29th in expected goals against
Dead last in HDCF%
Dead last in HDCA/60 (high danger scoring chances against)
Who knows what the Jets are now with the 3 month plus delay, but they were NOT playing lights out defensively when the season halted.

The jan 1 to the end of season was from the article not mine. 2.65 seems pretty middle of the road to be 6th best...
After the All Star game the 2.10 seems scary ... That compares to the Flames 3.35 over the last 20 games going 10-8-2
No amount of fancy stats can paper over a 3.35 Goals against. That is the whole team playing weak defense. (Gio and Hamonic missing.. a bit over half the games. Hamonic might not be as easy to replace as some folks think)
A 2.10 with a 12-6-2 and those Crappy fancy stats...IF they held for the last 20 games would suggest that Hellebuyck would be the best player in the league as the season ended.
The Flames goalies saw slightly more shots over the last 20 games than the Jets goalies 653 to 634

It will have been about 5 months by the time teams start playing again, assuming it happens at all (I am still not 100% convinced there won't be snag).
For that reason, it will almost be like a re-boot. I would almost look at how teams preformed out of the gate at the start of the season, than how they played in January and February, to get a feel for how things might go.

In that case I expect Rittich and Lindholm to play awesome, the rest of the team not so much.
Hell maybe this is edmonton's year after all, with their adeptness for preseasons. Who knows.
Canucks have also started the last two seasons on a tear. I liked their deadline pickups too, so long as they have Markstrom.
And now I'll wash out my mouth.
