How does Kevin Lowe deserve to get into the HHOF after saying there are two types of fans? The paying customers and the ones who watch on TV.

Ugh.

I'm very happy for him and this franchise.

He made following the Flames interesting for 16 years. He's a smart cat too. I wonder if he ever gets involved in hockey at the office level.

Thankfully, that's not something the HHOF does.

It really is incredible about Lowe. But his schomoozing of the press has never known any bounds, leveraging his position as an executive, to give any press willing to take him serious, a look behind the Oiler scenes and paint rosy pictures of turds, all for the betterment of his ego to be revered in media hockey circles, and for being able to get favourable coverage for the club at a later date by the same national press. Of course having the local press in the palm of his hand, which allowed him to be passing blame off to puppets like Tambelleni, Chia, MacTavish, Eakins etc etc etc making up for his lack of hockey managerial sense and player development ability.

He convinced/conned players and smart people like Chris Pronger, Erik Cole, Tom Renney and Pat Quinn etc to join the organization, as well as countless others over the years, most of who very quickly regretted the decision. He has no problem trotting out his affiliation with Gretzky or the universally loved Hockey Canada affiliation to forward his cause, so he has the gift of gab.

So, he’s played the schmoozing game probably for many years behind the scenes, hoping to get this vote, and he’s got it, and his ego won’t fit inside the building up there now, now that he’s been given the pat on the back by his peers that he’s wanted so much, and wishes (and maybe assumed) he has also as an executive.

But for what he did on the ice? Longevity is about it.

But, no question, this day is about Iginla, the best player ever to play for the Calgary Flames, given passion on the ice, his ability, skill, power, commitment to the organization, and doing all he could to pull others up around him better.

His was a joke for him not to win the Hart Trophy over Theodore, not on the 100 NHL top players, and a travesty that he got robbed of the Stanley Cup in 2004.

He's going in as a player, luckily for him not as a moronic GM or hockey op.

He was a very good defensive player who was lucky enough to play on some very, very good hockey teams. But is he HOF worthy?

Zero postseason all star teams. The closest he got to being a Norris finalist was 5th. Yes, I know those accolades are usually reserved for offensive-minded defensemen but Rod Langway won it twice during the same era putting up almost identical stats on worse teams.

So basically Lowe was a very good defensive d-man, who played on a lot of great teams and won a lot of Cups, played on the Canada Cup '84 team, played in the All Star game several times, and...........that's all I got.

No wonder he had to wait 20 years to get in and wasn't voted in previously.

I'm sure this topic has been discussed before on CP, but I wonder which members felt that Iggy wouldn't be a first ballot Hall of Famer? Opinions of him on here are mixed which outside fans would be surprised about. Maybe, I'm wrong though and this is the one thing that his detractors agreed about?

he was a good defenceman no doubt but do we even have evidence he was Langway good? the Oilers despite a hall of fame goalie, and having the puck all the time, and a so-called elite defensive forward (Kurri) and the best two way centre in Messier, and another hall of fame dman in Coffey, and guys like Huddy and Gregg that Sather always found time for on team Canada, and the great Kevin Lowe- were typically average in the league defensively

maybe he was just a good player on team built around one of the best 1-3 players ever, 3 other inner circle hall of famers, and two additional hall of famers beyond that?

just compared McCrimmon and Lowe's numbers side by side- pretty interesting. similar career duration and points. +/- I get it, I get it,,but Sarge's is through the roof - did he play on better teams than Lowe? have an easier role? I would guess no to both

anyways the more I think about it is all fine . I look forward to the 2040 Hall of Fame induction class of Connor McDavid and Robyn Regehr

In the retirement video narrated by Lanny during Iginla’s jersey retirement night vs Minnesota there is a sign someone had of Iginla in a Obama type of pic with HOPE underneath, does anyone have a copy of that? Long shot but thought I would ask.

Thanks
