Murray is an RFA too, so you might get him signed to a pretty decent deal as well coming off not his best year.

Buy some what low maybe and get a 26 year old proven starter that's already made 47 playoff starts, won 28 of them and has a Stanley Cup.

Goalies can be such voodoo though.

Since the Penguins have announced that Murray is expected to get the first chance to be their playoff starter, I expect he’s not available. Most teams like to lean on 2 goalies these days.

If we do sign Hall I would still wait one more season with Gaudreau and go all in with a fantastic looking top 6.

It could also drastically improve Gaudreau point production which will help in a trade.

I also can see Philly, Buffalo, New Jersey, Rangers etc in a bidding war knowing he’ll sign long term for them.

Lehner I've never been sold on, plus he's a head case.

Markstrom is already 30 and never played a playoff game, and just conveniently had his best season of his career before going UFA. Buying high and probably not getting what you pay for.

If the cost isn't crazy I'd go after Murray long before signing those two.

We never talk about Pittsburgh being a possibly landing spot for Gaudreau. They’re still in win now mode until Crosby and Mallon fall off a cliff. Do they have any pieces/prospects of interest that could be a fit here? Or are their cupboards pretty bare?

I don’t like the calling him a head case. Would you say that about mcgratton?

If anything he’s proved to be the complete opposite with what he’s been through and dealt with. And his numbers don’t lie. He’s the best shot we have at a bonafide top ten goalie without paying huge term or money like Markstrom.

Except it started last year, not this year, and it was after the Canucks switched back to goalie coach, Ian Clark.

I've seen Pittsburgh's prospect pool ranked dead last by more than one hockey website. They have Samuel Poulin and not a ton of attractive players beyond him. I think they are low on available draft picks as well.

They have Sam Poulin as a prospect, and he is being called up for the playoffs. That's about it.

I think they pretty much are done for now because of the Zucker acquisition... Unless they want to offer 2021 and 2022 1sts for Gaudreau. Like someone has already said, their prospect pool is among the worst because they keep trading their top picks or prospects for upgrades. They've been in win now mode for a long time.

Yeah don't think the likes of Boston or Pittsburgh will be too appealing for the Flames to deal with. Unless a hockey deal springs up, which I doubt.

The NY state teams, Jersey, Philly would be the ones that get Johnny close to home. But, I think you could get a good deal out of any other east team too outside of TB, BOS and PITT.

If the Flames wait until next year Johnnys NTC dictates things a lot more, lessens the return. Cap friendly lists his NTC as a 5 team trade list. Not a no trade.

Yeah, if you're going to trade Gaudreau, you have to do it this offseason if the Flames don't do well in the playoffs.

If he gets to his NTC, then those 5 teams are going to have the ball in their court, dictating what to give up for JG because they know they're 1 of the 5 teams.

Trade at the draft before it kicks in July first. Still one year before right?

I believe it kicks in July 1st, 2021, so yes. Unless NTC's start when the draft starts, but I do not think that is the case.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

If we can sign Hall, I would be stapling Hall to that top line, letting them rotate or fight it out for who plays what wing. Rotate Monahan and Lindholm up there. But I think Gaudreau pumps out another 90-100 point season having Hall even on the power play.

Pump and dump.

Markstrom should win the Hart...he is the contender that actually got his team into the playoffs himself. They had 3 wins in 10 games after he went down.

I was meaning those as a base.

Don’t think Pittsburgh has any appealing assets.

Poulin and two firsts would be a good return, as he looks to be a prototypical power forward with top line potential. They would leave the Penguins with literally nothing in the system and three years of no firsts.
