My concern here is that while their blue line is hot garbage, the Jets clearly have the better goalie, and more high-end goal scorers in their lineup. I don't love the matchup, in other words. But it seems likely that it'll be a 5 game series in any event so it's not like I'd be surprised with either result.
Yay hockey! BOO format.

yes...... but if we go by this bulletproof logic:
Calgary has the better defense that smothers the Jets forwards, lower quality scoring chances.
Winnipeg's lower tier defense allows Flames forwards to run amok, higher quality scoring chances.
jets goalie gets fatigued faster, allows more goals.
Flames win

So, no home playoff games to attend, no red mile or potential parade because of Covid-19. The only thing I like about it is that we get a higher pick or lottery pick if the Flames lose the “play in” series. The top two picks look really good.

I personally think this is a great matchup for Calgary. Regardless of how one chooses to rate each player or roster, the Flames have a good record v. Winnipeg.
Add to that the scenario of playing in front of empty buildings, and on the road, and I think this is a big advantage for the Flames. Calgary is a great road team, and the players seem to struggle with in-game emotional swings. Comparably speaking, one of the Jets's strengths has been their play at MTS Centre. Without that, I think the Flames are a very good bet to win this series.

My preference was to do a training camp, a few exhibition games between the top 16 teams by points % (separated by division so you're not playing your round 1 opponents in the tune up), followed by a regular playoffs. It screws over a couple of teams, but I can live with that.
If there has to be a play in, I would have the top 3 teams in each division by points percentage fixed as they are, and the play in be solely for the two wild cards. 9 vs 8 and 10 vs 7, best of 5 in the evenings, exhibition games between the top 3 in each division as the matinees, then a regular playoffs.
Either of those would have been preferable to me, even though the second one ends up with the Flames in basically the same position they're in now.

As excited as I am for hockey to come back, I can't help but feel playing in empty arenas and not being able to congregate will take things thing down a peg.

The intensity level of game play will be interesting. I can imagine that a part of the reason they are pushing the season so far back is in hopes of fans being allowed in arenas by September or whatever.

What a crazy timeline. Almost June and prepping for hockey. It feels so weird, but IMO it's gonna be cool to finally have hockey to watch since we got cut off.
Logistics of this are going to be crazy. But kudos to both the league and PA if they pull this off.

I do not see this as them pushing anything back. They are going through the process, they need time to agree on path forward, for whatever isolation, training camps, etc. are required. Lots has to happen to make this a go, and I believe they are hard at work with an aggressive timeline

I have my chest puffed out today, because if history has taught me anything, the Flames are a clear lock to quickly dispatch of this inferior fist round fodder.

Surely they can do some things to inject excitement.
I still think they could set up live feeds of people at home in the arenas on screens.
Will need extra music and horn blasts of course.
I'd also expect a small number of spectators will be able to attend with medical screening and specific seating arrangements.

Flames have a clear edge here but I really worry about the Jets smashing us with their bottom 6. That third line is deadly

The only peg being taken down will be the Winni peg Jets.

I think so. Teams are only allowed to recall four guys after the trade deadline. But the Flames will have their collection of black aces on hand who I believe they'll be able to recall on an emergency basis during the playoffs. Correct me if I'm wrong on that, anybody.
Of course, the NHL implementing 28-skater rosters for the playoffs may change things entirely

Combination of bleeding while at the same time bursting. Usually refers to the bursting of blood out one's crevices. Can sometime relate to periods, or large fits of laughter, zit poppings, deficating, or throwing up.

So looking at the Flames over the last 5 years they have been an up and down team. 2015 they break through and make the playoffs for the first time in 6 years. 2016 they fall back down into the bottom 5 of the league. 2017 they bounce back into a wildcard spot to only fall out again in 2018. 2019 they jump to 2nd in the league. The 2020 season we find ourselves back on the bubble. Does this 3+ month layoff mean the team is going to bounce back in a positive way with the pandemic acting as an unofficial offseason?

I think our third line of lucic-ryan- playoff bennett (or dube if regular bennett shows up) can match up well! I worry about the 4th line though, janko had a very weak season and seems ripe to be exploited.
