Could always replace most of the trees with fruit trees. You won't get furniture from fruit trees apparently.
I only shake about 10-20 trees now to find my furniture and have a whole boatload of trees - mostly fruit.

Someone apparently cracked the code on how the vendor NPCs appear.
Leif, Kicks, and Sahara are guaranteed to show up once a week (if your criteria are met). Which leaves two weekdays to that will randomly be filled with Gulliver, Label, CJ, Flick, or Redd. (Weekends are always Daisy-Mae and KK). Any ones that didn't visit during the week have a higher chance of visiting the following week.
Personally the guaranteed ones bug me. Leif I don't really care about and I'd rather his stuff just show up at Nooks after he visits. Kicks only has 5 items at a time and nothing overly exciting.
I've missed Gulliver 3 times before I knew what to do with him and haven't seen him since. I have 100 bugs in storage waiting for Flick, and an empty art gallery.
I also discovered you can't sell to Flick or CJ on someone else's island, which also bugs me.
Side note: If you do create multiple profiles for art and such, note that Sahara's offerings will be the same for all profiles, with the exception of whatever you get trading tickets.
