Considering there won’t be fans next year either they have to maximize what they can. I think Seattle is toast and probably 2 or 3 other teams as well. Unless there is a huge concession in player salaries. So yes they are fully invested in playing summer games. In butt #### no where for 3 months if they have to.

With today's announcement that all gatherings over 15 people are banned in Alberta through the summer, I assume that takes Edmonton off the table as an option for July.

We will see I guess, I don't see millionaire NHL players being in lock down for 2 months away from home

Winnipeg is actually obnoxiously hot in the summer.

Anyway, the NHL already turned Winnipeg down because they don't have enough hotels LOL.

The reason Manitoba's curve is flattening and even decreasing is because Manitoba is mostly uninhabited. Social distancing before it was cool. Also, social distancing measures started before Manitoba had any recorded cases.

totally. How many people would it take to have a game?

between players, personnel, tv crews, arena operators, perhaps in the range of about 300?

Seattle is toast? What on earth would indicate that? Do you understand the magnitude of the deal that brought the Seattle franchise to existence?

It's a fluid situation. "Forget about Golf in Alberta" will likely turn to "golf is opening in X weeks" as soon as it makes sense. Hockey will likely be the same.

Seattle is 21/22 season not next season.

The Athletic looks at the potential markets where play could resume: https://theathletic.com/1773222/2020...-could-resume/

They are ranked based on this criteria:
  1. Not a COVID-19 "hot spot"
  2. A minimum of 4 NHL-calibre dressing rooms to allow for multiple games per day with complete sanitizing of each room between uses
  3. Practice facilities within close proximity of the arena/team hotels to meet the needs of multiple teams' schedules
  4. An adequate number of 4/5 star hotels within close proximity of the arena to house all of the teams
  5. A facility that isn't shared with an NBA team and/or coordination with the NBA to ensure both leagues aren't trying to use the same arena

  • Tier 1 (Leaders): Columbus, Edmonton, Minnesota, Toronto
  • Tier 2 (Strong Possibility): Dallas, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Vegas
  • Tier 3 (Fallback): Arizona, Buffalo, Carolina, Colorado, Detroit, St Louis, Vancouver
  • Tier 4 (No Chance): Everyone else

The Athletic story goes into much more detail on each city. It's worth a read if you have access.

With other formats, you could end up with a fluke Champ.

Imagine the Flames win this thing, and many really don't consider it legitimate. Might be entertaining, might feel ok, but not fully satisfying.
2 points

- Tampa Bay seems satisfied with their ‘Cup win

- The world has changed, my friend. Don’t look for old fashioned normal

There has been a lot learned about this virus in a short time and learning continues.

Genetic sequencing was a start, mechanisms of transmission, mortality rates, etc. There are papers looking at air quality in various locations within the hospital and Wuhan.

A lot is being learned and that knowledge can be leveraged in risk assessments and decisions on acceptable behaviour

I assume they could build rules distinguishing public gatherings and specific controlled private gatherings

Seattle is probably the least affected franchise since they are not playing any games for 18 months.

Then they better be ready for a barrage of requests for them.

Churches. mosques, synagogues etc will be at the forefront. Particularly because they are covered by the charter.

There will be no special concessions for hockey though. Nor should there be. The optics would be brutal if nothing else.

If they cant even hold a football game (held outdoors with way more room for distancing) then there is no way they will open up closed in arenas.

It’s really not. Both sports have many players battling in close quarters.

By “build rules” and “specific controlled”, I was thinking that if they can demonstrate isolation / quarantine of all of the participants, which for practical purposes would be impossible for all of these silly religious gatherings in your counter example
