According to Servalli 28 of 31 NHL teams expressed interest in Mackey with at least 9 teams willing to burn off the first year of his ELC.

I think Mackey is a big get for the Flames AND they got him without burning the ELC.

Mackey is a big guy too - 6'3"
If Forbort walks and one of Kylington/Valimaki is traded I could see him fighting for the #6 spot
|

It depends on the age of the player as of Sept 15 in the year of when they sign their contract.
18-21 year old get 3 year ELC
22-23 year old get 2 year ELC
24 year old get 1 year ELC.
Mackey turns 24 on Sept 12. Poolman turns 25 in December
|

Interesting seeing the left side loaded up. Giordano and Valimaki arn't going anywhere IMO, so I wonder if this is a bullet in the chamber for Tre, concerning Hanafin and Kylington.

I could see Gio moving in the right situation. He still has value. But it wouldn’t help the expansion situation because I suspect he’d be unprotected anyway.

What do you mean about burning a year of ELC? His ELC is only one year and he'll hit UFA status at 27 regardless?
