I believe he stated from the beginning that it would go somewhere such as the foundation if CSEC coughed up the dough... no bait and switch... this was a predictable outcome.
I do agree that perhaps the money should go towards some short term purpose those being affected most in these challenging times as that was the intent of the campaign... donating to foundation won’t have an immediate impact other than asking them to disperse the funds in a similar fashion.

Good job Flames .... you are going beyond what you have to do ... as a season ticket holder for over twenty years it makes me proud .... I know that if I couldn’t work I for sure wouldn’t get paid , the Flames initial decision was based on normal business practices .... I fully understand ... I laugh at all the self righteous self entitled people criticizing the ownership group over this ..... ya ...

I hope there is a media availability where Bean and Co can explain their rationale and maybe even taken to task by local media.
Also they should assure the giving public that any money raised and transfered for the Flames Foundation will be used for the event employees and not any other of their foundation's initiatives.

The GoFundMe starter clearly has good intentions, but this is essentially a bait and switch and now a ton of people have essentially donated to the people who caused this.

I think you are mistaken on the bait and switch suggestion.
From the original Gofundme post:
“100% of the proceeds will be donated to CSEC hourly and part time employees. I have contacts within the Flames organization and will find a fair way to distribute the funds. If the Flames ownership group changes their mind and decides to compensate their employees, all proceeds will be donated to the Flames Foundation, a local charity, or we’ll find a way to still compensate CSEC staff.”
Also, as set out, the owners don’t benefit from this, except for the goodwill the Foundation provides. This goodwill was a leverage point during the negotiations, but the owners/team don’t get tax write offs for this, unless money is specifically donated.

The Flames Foundation has already faced public criticism for how they disburse funds. That’s not where this money should go. I don’t really agree that the donated money should stay with the employees either.
This is a fiasco. If the Flames want to recover they can show some community leadership here. It’s not like there’s a shortage of need.

I'm very disappointed about the owners' handling of this,
But I just want to say:
Some players literally leave these matters in the hands of their agents. I know for a fact a local-grown hockey star, who'll remain anonymous, paid his brother's bill through his agent (overdue & paid at the 11th hour)

The GoFundMe literally said from the start that if CSEC changes its mind the funds will go to the Flames Foundation. Sounds like they're doing the right thing and holding true.

Totally fair and I agree. Without getting into too many personal details here my nephew was/is one of those affected. Busted his butt for the CSEC the last two years. He's going to SAIT in the fall and is counting on some of those money. We're all going to be faced with some hardships in the next year but seeing billionaires just ignore their employees.. I've just had enough. Perhaps I came across a bit vindictive then I wanted. It's been a rough day arguing with two of my siblings over the fate of our parents and my own two (rather independent) children facing time locked up with their parents.
Forgiveness is a good quality. Just not always easy.

Murray Ed lost multiple billions of dollars this week, so likely why he went the cheap route to start. Rookie move when 30+ pro sports teams had already announced plans to top up salaries.

The original go fund me had 3 possibilities if the Flames stepped up. I think the Flames Foundation is by far the worst of the three. Pick a local charity for other low income people who will need help. I bet the food bank or meals on wheels could use a hand right now.

That criticism was unwarranted. One of the criticisms was that 50-50s result in only half the money going to charity, and the better way is a 100% donation. Another was that the Poker Tournament had significant costs, so the money should be donated instead. In both of these instances, the decision is not between better ways to raise funds, but between these methods (Poker, Golf, 50-50), or not at all. The CBC article criticising the fundraising was very off base.
Another complaint was that there were funds not yet disbursed; held back by the Foundation. They had been allocated, but not disbursed. Such as the $250,000.00 each year to give every grade 6 student in Calgary a YMCA membership. Because these funds were not yet disbursed, it was shown as a negative, and assumed they were funds retained. I.e. Never to be disbursed. This is flat out wrong.
Of actual funds raised by the Foundation, after expenses (the golf and poker tourneys cost money to run), 88% are disbursed.
Now, all that said, I don't disagree that the optics of this issue are very bad. I think the club sometimes stumbles on its messaging, and, in my personal opinion, could have started with saying all shifts are cancelled, and we will making further announcements as required. There are Employment Standards Code requirements, however.
The discussion surrounding if the workers get paid if/when the shifts actually occur is interesting, as if so, then they get paid to both not work, and then to work. It is very easy for all of us to spend other people's money, "just because they are rich". None of this is easy, for any business, to try to navigate, and it has never happened before.

Money should go to where it was intended. Top up the awesome people who work part-time at the dome. Oh well. Gofundme can be brilliant until it's not. While circumstances change, the sentiment and purpose of the Gofundme should not change or the money should be returned.
Edit:
If it was stated to go the Flames Foundation in the Gofundme then that is fine as well.

These are unprecedented times. I expect we will see relief offered from creditors, lenders, landlords, tax collectors etc.
