Until you realize that the most things that happen every day don't really matter either.

Can you, Strange Brew and the others who quoted me chill out a little bit?

It wasn't I who told ANY of you not to discuss the impact, I wasn't the one who said asked "why TF are any of you thinking about the playoffs" all I did was make passing mention how unimportant it looks right now. Continue talking about whatever the eff you want to talk about. It doesn't bother me one bit.

So this just occurred to me. If the season is cancelled it is not really fair for teams who forked out draft picks for rentals for a playoff run to lose those picks. How does the league deal with that?

I call for the NHL to suspend the rest of the season until May. At which point there will be a march madness style bracket for all 31 teams(bruins get a bye for finishing first). Think of the upsets, the drama, the Mayhem!

Was just thinking the same. I think it just comes with the territory though.

I don't think there is anything to be done. Teams will forfeit their picks regardless of whether or not the playoffs occur unless they are conditional.

I feel like on some front or multiple ones, teams are going to get kinda screwed. and there's no way around it.

Whether that be standings/playoff seedings, the draft, trade deadline rentals etc. You can't even the paying field for everyone in such unprecedented circumstances. And I think it would be messier to try to accommodate everybody somehow, cause it then becomes a slippery slope for more criticism over how it's handled.

Well that isn't right at all. Some teams gave up 1st rnd picks, some multiple 2nds for a couple weeks of what amounts to meaningless hockey. I think the Islanders Pageau deal is fine because they got an extension done but what about the others? I mean if I am an owner or a GM I have a huge problem with this.

No different than trading for a player and then losing him to injury shortly after

I think it is very different. Those deals were made with the intention of bolstering lineups to make a run into the playoffs that won't even happen now. Even if a player gets injured what are the odds it would be season ending? Highly unlikely. I don't think they are comparable at all.

For argument's sake, let's say they're not comparable.

What's the solution that doesn't invoke a web of 'what if' scenarios trying to make everyone's unique circumstance whole now?

Genuinely think you have to leave it be, this is a totally unforeseen circumstance.

The NHL is going to suspend the season until further notice, just like the NBA. End of story. Of the 4 major North American pro-sports it's only the NHL who would be technically continuing. NFL is in the off-season, baseball's season is suppose to start in a few weeks and the NBA just cancelled.

The WHO just called this a pandemic and the NBA took drastic measures. Seeing how this has grown and the rapid changes that have occurred very very quickly with certain west coast and east coast areas of the US getting hammered, how can the NHL continue? There is a huge movement to stop this freight train and stop it fast.

The NHL and some fans think they may be able to continue, but how long can they really continue for? By this time next week we may be looking at thousands of new cases in North America and literally have thousands of arena staff and NHL players, teams and their employees refusing to come to work for fear of getting sick.

What the future holds I really don't know but I have a feeling that this has been underestimated by all but the hardest of hardcore experts. I don't think it helped that China was probably lying about their cases when enough ground evidence pointed to this being a major problem back in December, people forget about that. This isn't a new thing and it's grown. The WHO also came out with a glowing response to their efforts which I think put too many people at ease over something we really didn't know or understand.

A lot of BS as a result of a few rat skewers, some bat soup and some cat cooked medium rare if you ask me.

Here's how it would look if the season was cancelled (sorted by W% then RW)
