The Flames, in some ways, seemed very well-coached. In other ways, the coaching is leaving us scratching our heads.

Who knows. There's a lot of luck.

Came to post exactly this. Appreciate the level headed logic. The loss sucks but it was unlucky, we played well enough to win. Keep playing like that and we’re a lock for the playoffs

Tough loss to stomach, but a point on the road is a point on the road. A tough back to back in Florida coming up. Hopefully the boys can keep up this effort for those games as well.

Ward needs to be on the ball and contemplating how he can influence the game to his teams advantage at every turn.

Challenge that.

Play Backlund, he's possessed.

How is that not abundantly clear to him?

Default Flames blow it, lose 4-3 in OT in unacceptable fashion

Man I can’t believe the negativity in here. Flames
win this easily if Saros wasn’t vintage Brodeur. That was a real good effort but the hockey gods paid Nashville back for that Halloween comeback we had on them. Team played very well, got a point, Vancouver lost to the Sens, and were one point back of 2nd in the division. Team seems to have turned a corner the last week or so. Some people need to step off the ledge.

That game sucked, but I kinda tuned out halfway through that game.
We had this game won. .1 seconds away from being 4 points up instead of 1 on NSH.

Wow, I didn't realize that. I only tuned in for the start of the 2nd. Figured they might have had at least 1. What a f'n joke.

If they didn't think they were likely to win that challenge, it is a stupid risk to take.

Not sure why you need to have such a pissy tone. You could have made your point without "genius" tacked on to the end.
I thought the comment referred to the last goal. Not the tying goal. That would have made your comment quite silly.

Turns out the person talking about the "last" goal is the genius since there was a goal after.

The genius comment was because you are the resident preacher here, so a little jab. Almost as bad as GioforPM. Just an observation.

Talbot is the better overall goalie for this team and it’s not even close.

Yeah I just rewound it to look at the entire play.
It all starts when the initial shot is blocked - and goes right back to the shooter. If it rebounds virtually anywhere else it's probably OK.
From then on it's mad panic.
Everyone basically loses their composure. Two dmen go behind the net. Backlund is actually in the right spot covering the middle of the home plate area.
Lindholm had two guys to cover - and he skated by the guy closest to the net, and sorta sat in the middle of nowhere.

I actually find it fascinating how in those crunch moments how often pro athletes and coaches just completely lose it.

I have a hard time blaming Rittich tonight. That was some Peewee B level defence on the first and third goals. I seriously question this team’s will to win. It seems almost non-existent.

I hope the Flames come out of this loss with a chip on their shoulder. They got a big point, but they have to be pissed off after such a brutal collapse (I know I am)

I'd like to see them walk into Florida and Tampa and blow the roof off both those buildings.

They have two choices -- they can either get demoralized by the loss, or they can feed off feeling like they were robbed and make the best of it.

A resilient team will pick the second option. Are these Flames resilient?

That’s a huge win for Nashville as wild card is all they’ve got.

An ending like that also shows how limited advanced stats are. Many games come down to how you play in big situations which aren’t measured over 60 minutes.

Hope the guys get mad and respond with passion this weekend.

Let's all just remember we don't own this team. We didn't sink our millions into this fiasco.

Rittich terrible on the blocker side.

Ugh feels like a playoff loss in OT where you lose all the momentum.

I don’t get why Bennett starts in OT?

Why not Backs/Mang or Mony/Johnny particularly with Back and Johnny on fire?

Please Tre hire an NHL head coach.

Edit: I just saw the replay and he took the other shooter on the side. That explains why he went by Granlund but it sucks he took the guy that had a worse angle to the net.
Yep, normal protocol is to bury Granlund with a cross check the second he takes position on you, pathetic.

I think a lot of fans realize it was a good effort undone by a few bad plays. This team needs to start getting more consistent goaltending as the good game/bad game routine makes it hard to go on an extended winning streak.

Why would anyone have challenged the last goal?

That’s a 3 point swing in a blink of an eye, you almost couldn’t have scripted a bigger nut punch for this one.

Will be telling to see how the team reacts. All season long they’ve folded at in-game adversity, this one has a bigger scope.

I’m nervous, which is too bad because they are playing well.

Have no idea what game you were watching because their effort level wasn’t the problem in this game - just a couple of poor decisions and questionable goals on Rittich.
