I used to count how many times Charlie Simmer would call Iginla "the captain" instead of saying his name -- it routinely got into the teens every night. I don't know why, but it always stuck out to me.

I am not the one to answer that question since—like I said—I don't pay much attention at the best of times. I think Craig Simpson is probably fairly good, and I have always liked Gary Galley. Is there anyone else?

I will say that while I don't think there are any especially good colour commentators in hockey, Cassie Campbell is in the end not much worse than almost everyone.
Maybe they should look at former coaches. Another guy I really like for the most part is Jeff Van Gundy on NBA broadcasts.

I used to like Harry Neale personally. But I bet that won’t be popular on here.

Conversations with Charlie Simmer:

“What did you do yesterday?”

“I went to the store? I ate an apple? I walked my dog? I watched some TV? I went to bed?”

Edit: Actually I might be thinking of Craig Simpson.

And never any goalie by their name. Just always "The goalie" or "The goaltender"

I always liked Darren Pang the most. Not sure if he's still doing any colour on US broadcasts, haven't heard him in a while.

Even with his Canuck bias which he controls well, John Garrett is decent. Jason York has also been good in the limited time he's been on the Flames broadcasts.

Galley, Simpson, Campbell are tolerable but have multiple negative moments each game.

Can't stand Ferraro, McGuire, and Remenda. Remenda is in a category of awfulness on his own.

It was just a joke. Versteeg did some tongue-in-cheek PBP during some skills competition a few years ago.

He made me hate Flames broadcasts for a while, particularly at the tail end when it was like he was phoning it in completely, going back to the same well of 3-4 responses. They could've just make a soundboard of things he usually says and play the appropriate one for the play at hand and he wouldn't even have to be in attendance.
I swear Charlie would reference "moving his feet" or "not moving his feet" 16 times per period. That's not hyperbole either.

None of these things have anything to do with her being a woman. There are a lot of guys that do these same things too, and I also (coincidence?) don't like them too.
She literally cannot do this.

Count me in as one of the ppl who think Hrudey is worse than Campbell. He has no idea what’s going on half the time. His goalie centric analysis is tired and uninsightful to me. He sounds like he should be retired half the time.

I don’t know how Campbell gets so much more criticism than Hrudey. I eye roll and shake my head at a far greater proportion of Hrudey’s analysis.

Watched the BOS feed last night. A notch in quality above Sportsnet for sure.

Edit: (I included the Buffalo game, since that was his first game as HC, but an argument can be made that he wouldn't have had the chance to adjust the systems until two days later when it was official. Unless, of course, it was already "internally official" and was thus allowed to make changes to the systems. Regardless, he was at least allowed to make lineup and in-game decisions - which should be enough to be able to include the Buffalo game.)
So the Flames were ranked 26th in the league in P% before Peters left, and in the time since he left until now have are ranked 9th in the league in P%. Wow. No doubt, Aliu is the MVP of this season so far.

Unfortunately, the Flames also had the most games played in the league at that time, before the coaching switch. 27 games already passed before the change.

Just a shame that the Oilers, Canucks and VGK have all improved their percentages to even higher levels than the Flames have.

Definitely not the best choice of words lol, but she needs to stop commentating like the audience is new to hockey, its rules, and its strategies. Nobody likes to be patronized.

If she were doing Vegas broadcasts then sure, that might be welcomed.. but she isn't, she's catering to one of the most knowledgable hockey fanbases in Canada and should adjust accordingly.

Hrudey has a good voice, and does offer insights at times. I don't mind him, even though he often gets names wrong, and he often starts saying something and then just trails off into silence. It is like his brain kind of stops telling his lips what to say and he starts daydreaming or something.

Cassie is 'fine' to me. She isn't as interesting to listen to (or as 'fun' as Hrudey is), but she does a decent job usually. She doesn't irritate me - sometimes I like what she says, and sometimes I wish she would move on quicker into something else.

I still can't complain at all. I couldn't stand the combo of Rob "quiet.. quiet... SCREAM SCREAM... quiet quiet" Kerr, and Charlie "Moving his feet" Simmer. No Rob, I don't need you to start shouting: "WHERE IS IT?!?!?!" when you lose sight of the puck. No Charlie, I don't think every single play either developed or didn't develop based on if player X was moving his feet, or not moving his feet.

Yeah, Cassie is monotone at times and I find she sometimes digs too far down on something and is a bit wordy, but I am not complaining. Flames have come a long way since the dark days of Rob Kerr and Charlie Simmer - both first class people and generally 'good guys', but just so difficult to listen to.

I think the reason some people feel there's some sexism involved is that, as stated above, most posters end up agreeing that she's no worse than a lot of CCs. Yet the criticism is constant for her, whereas it's not with the others.

I do like Hrudey more myself mainly because I don't find any CCs that insightful so I look to him for some playful banter. I do think he has some insight actually, as far as players emotional states. Not in breaking down plays though.

Cassie does get pretty basic in her analysis. But that's no different than a whole lot of them, and she's right more often than many of them too.

At the end of the day, I don't pay much attention to them. The PBP is far more important and there, Ball is elite.

What? The Canucks have an identical winning percentage to the Flames since the end of November. Edmonton has a 17–15–5 record in the same time, which is pretty terrible for a team that wants to be in the playoffs.
