The Flames sure as heck would have a better coach, for starters. Maybe even an identity, too.

Horrible ####ing day

Makes you wonder if they (Flames) even know what they are doing? Then you have with Bennett, Backlund and Gaudreau who don't seem to want to be here.
Are they building a winning team or is this falling apart? Trade Bennett and the team will start to seem hollow like it has no identity.

They were spitballing, at no time did anyone say Bennett has asked to be moved. My God would that ever be great if Backlund wanted out! He makes $5M+ a year and plays like an AHLer this year. I would love for him to waive that NTC so we could dump him.

"Like it has no identity" this team has no identity as it is. They aren't a tough team, they aren't a fast team or an overly skilled team...their identify is that they have no identity

If the Flames trade Bennett, extend Hamonic, and let Brodie walk I won’t renew my season tickets.

I could see why the flames were thinking about trading Brodie for a top 6 forward. Between him and Hamonic , he's probably the player that could bring that back in a trade.

I really don't care if they trade Bennett or not. He is okay on the 3rd line for the 25 or so games he shows up for.

Not happy about a rumour of Hamonic signing an extension.

Every time this team might actually add a top 6 forward they desperately need some stupid ####ing #### happens.

It's getting ridiculous at this point.

I believe Bennett is better than advertised, Iv'e long felt the Flames kept him from the top lines so they could keep him at a lower salary range. Even when Bennett was scoring they saddled him with less talented players. Bennett knows it too and plays like it. We see a different Bennett come playoff time but he won't give the Flames what they during the season. I am in the camp that believes we will see a different Bennett once he gets traded.

Same thing we are seeing from Gaudreau, his nose is out of joint, he won't give the Flames anymore effort than he has to. Some think he is shying away from contact I think it is just an excuse not to give the Flames the player they want. He is not on the top line and probably not happy Tkachuk is the guy and getting paid.

Wasn't it Bennett's agent who had issues with Bennett's ice time last season, maybe that's an issue again?

Bennett more than deserved the opportunity Mangiapane got to play in the top six, instead of being given one period and then demoted to the fourth line.

Tinkering at the edges isn't going to fix this team.

Nor will a new coach - we've had 3 in 6 years with the same results. There is a systemic problem with the core, and the guys at the core have to drive the team.

They don't hate to lose enough. They don't love winning enough. They aren't willing to do what it takes when it gets hard.

I'm all for starting the rebuild.

Posted this in a different thread but it's probably better here:

I don't think it's a coincidence that Bennett couldn't get a sniff of real minutes under Ward until the last week where Bennett has gone from ~11 minutes a night to ~15.

Prior to the all Star break Bennett had 0 of his last 8 games over 13 minutes. Since the all Star game, he hasn't had a game under 13, and played as much as 16 minutes in the mega loss to the oilers while being 2 seconds shy of 15 minutes in the win over the oilers.

Are they playing him more because he asked for more icetime again, or because they are showcasing him Hodgson style or...because he's playing well?

Bennett refuses to give the Flames the player they want and this is exactly why.

There's no evidence that Backlund "doesn't want to be here".

From what I have seen, he is playing well enough to warrant the ice time. Last game though he really unplugged once the blender got going.

As a player he must be frustrated beyond belief. Because as a fan I'm frustrated for him and I'm not playing.

Doesn't play like he wants to be here unless you think he is declining?

I see no signs from backlund that he doesn't want to be here and plenty of signs that we are just watching the wheels fall off a player who previously struggled to score anyway.
