Looks like a groin injury to me. I think he's gone for at least a couple of weeks.

If it's a hammy it's a big problem.

If it's a serious tear it's a big problem.

Hamstring tear worst case scenario

Gio missed 20 games with it when it happened to him the first time I think. Devastating timing.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's done until April. Reminds me of when he tore his bicep in 2015.

Problem is, I don't think the Flames have the depth to be able to run a remix of Brodie-Engelland / Russell-Wideman. Might be time to sell and see if you can still squeak in.

If Gio is out, I would give Hanifin a run with Andersson and give us a good gauge of what we have in our future D-Core.

I shudder at the Brodie-Hamonic / Stone - Kylington Parings though.

If Gio is in fact out long term, I sincerely hope Hamonic and Brodie are both dealt.

Hanifin - Andersson
Kylington - Yelesin
Davidson - Stone

Finish the year running that.

All the talk on the radio/Francis’ tweet...this just sucks for Gio. It just sucks.

Terrible post. .5 ppl for a D is good. Johnny is playing at a 65 point pace down from 99. Tkachuk also down a lot.

You know that Gio got a lot of his points on teammates goals, yes?

He is a + on a brutal - team that has decided not to play with pace

Being the Norris winner and acknowledged by his peers as one of the toughest D to play against, makes your post one of the toughest to read

Yeah, I have to agree, but as you get older you're slower to heal.

I've been critical of Gio because I see leadership issues with this team, but he's still an all heart player, and him being out leaves a sizable hole on the blueline.

Grade 3: A complete tear will lead to severe pain to the extent that the patient may need crutches, there will be immediate swelling and bruising evident within 24 hours. This can happen to both amateurs and professionals alike and is common in football, with the following video showing Michael Owen pulling is hamstring mid game and his subsequent reaction.
Quote:
On average, a pulled hamstring (grade 1) should take from a few days up to 3 weeks to heal, whereas grade 2 and 3 tears can take weeks or months. Research studies suggest that treatment during the initial stages of the injury can have a big impact on rehabilitation time and full recovery.

Feel bad for Gio but with the team crapping the bed with him maybe they can rally without him, the team is in a funk and totally need a spark, one never knows where that can come from.

^ Maybe a 2015 situation? He goes down and the team rallies to the playoffs.

But given I just wondered aloud in the PGT if its worth salvaging this season, I'll stick with that.

Desperately trying to get this team into the playoffs, when they've clearly proven for over a calendar year that they would not be able to raise their level in the playoffs to be competitive enough to even win the first round (against a likely high seed at that), would indicate how short sighted the vision of this franchise is, as well how delusional their belief is.

This isn't a one piece away fix. This is a retool at the minimum.
I think the desperately try and get the team into the playoffs motif is primarily an ownership view, not a GM view for the most part.

The guy they hire to replace him will be equally an idiot, and your franchise would still be doomed.

This team isn't rallying around anything.

They are dead inside.

Hopefully Treliving has the ability to cut the cancer out in the off season and save the patient.

I'm not saying it's impossible but how would a SJ player get that info? Gio went for a scan no doubt - did he return to the arena and chat with the SJ players instead of heading home.

Or were they just saying what Gio said about it right at the time, which would only be his first reaction on how it felt?

A hamstring or groin injury is so irritating. On one hand, they're not usually as serious as other injuries but they can take so long to heal and they can be re-aggravated so easily if you're not careful.

Doesn't sound good.
