On the topic of having fun or "show boating"...I mean, all three major North American sports have it. The NBA and NFL speaks for itself in that department, and even the MLB has been promoting it in recent years.
Is it time for the NHL and its players to embrace it more? The most fun the players have is celebrating a goal, other than that, everything else is soo generic. Sure, they tried to make the all-star game more lively, but it feels so forced and awkward.

If you think you're in some kind of window you're not putting your best foot forward by just running our the season with an interim.

Guys need a defined system that emphasizes speed and back checking and a guy like Gallant offers exactly that blueprint.
When the Flames are motivated, truly motivated, they can - and do - play good D. Almost suffocating sometimes on teams. But it's too rare. The first and second Edmonton games were pretty good that way - not at lot for McAvi and Raisaitl there, and a few other games this year. But no consistency.

And then they forget to play as a team and everything falls apart as they run around stupidly everywhere.

Beats me, but I think it's coaching and a change of scenery for a batch of players. This team is "good" when they want to be and at best semi-mediocre the rest of the time.

Win a game:
-Didn't like how Johnny played, trade him while you still can
-Needed a stronger game from middle D pairing
-Ok now play a 60 min game next time god ####ing damn it

Most entertaining first two periods of a game this season probably, even though the Flames were not on their game. No need to blow this team up, but they sorely need Johnny to get back on top of his game. Him and Monahan have been leaving a large hole to fill compared with prior years.

Incredibly disappointing game tonight. It felt like it was over a minute in and even though the team battled back they got completely out worked. I am not shocked that Edmonton desperately wanted that game but it was a weak effort in a huge game.

Oilers emptied the tank on their Stanley Cup tonight. We'll be comfortably be ahead in a couple weeks.

There is only one current team in a playoff spot in the NHL with a negative goal differential.

The Calgary Flames at a whopping -22.

This team has played poorly all season and they are quite lucky to still be talking about the playoffs.

100% agree! He’s here for one reason and completely disappeared. I’m fine with the loss. Oilers needed it.

The flames have a pretty easy schedule coming up and we’ll find out if they have a chance.

Yes, they just let Draisaitl skate all over ontouched when he should be there # 1 target. There is a reason Ward has only been an associate coach until taking this job by default. Reider over Rinaldo for a game against the oilers is ridiculous. If these coaches have any balls Lucic will sit in the stands for a few games.

It would have taken their entire 5 game winning streak from the start of January to erase the deficit tonight created. This team leads the league in one goal wins but then has been soundly beaten on multiple occasions.

The Oilers wanted this more than the Flames did. Bad goaltending and too many turnovers by the defence was the difference.

They sat back for the last 2 periods and gave the Oilers all the space they needed.

Worst effort by the team this season.

I love this team, and will always be a Flames fan, but I think it's time to call a spade, a spade, and know that big changes needs to happen for this team to have any sustainable success.

Johnny doesn't seem to like playing here, and neither does Hanifin for that matter.

As far as the coach goes, I like Ward as a person, but I think it's time the team ponies up and hires Gallant, or another bonafide head coach.

New arena will be here in a few years, and we need to be trending in the right direction, not spinning our tires as we have done for the past 20 plus years.

Anyone who is off the bandwagon please stay gone! It’s one game that the oilers needed to save face. Easy schedule coming up. We’ll find out if this team has a chance in the next two weeks.

It really comes down to they get shutout every 7 or 8 games. This game doesn't help either.

I understand that the league’s disparity is tight nowadays but there’s no excuse for a lack of effort. That 3rd period summed up the Flames. The 2004 or 2015 Flames would’ve never played a 3rd period like that. This team is doomed.

I have so many negative things to say. I don’t know where to start.

Backlund is not an impact player anymore whatsoever.
Gaudreau and Monahan are too soft to be paid that much.
Lucic was the worst hockey player on the ice and chose not to step in. I lost all respect. He’s not even close to what Reeves is for Vegas.
Ward did not dress Rinaldo. What are you thinking? Reider instead? What a joke.
Hanifin, who I’ve defended in the past, looked as dumb as Dougie Hamilton but without the unique physical characteristics.
I have about 10 more points but I’ll stop. At least Talbot and Tkachuk has pride tonight.

Going into Year 7 of the Treliving rebuild. Yet to build a team that can legitimately contend for the Stanley cup. Has never hired a real good coach. He truly is the Jason Garrett of General Managers it appears, accomplishes very little but has longevity in his position. Boatloads of money in a backend that is painfully mediocre. Soft forwards with little to no grit. Hopefully it improves in the last couple years of his first decade as the Flames GM.
