That's because 3.5 lbs of Kassian, usually allocated to a brain, are located in the abdomen.

Flames Bieksa "Answering the bell"

One just has to watch the Bieksa "Ferkland" video to understand the code.

1) take numerous big hits, and decline fight.
2) call said player out in media for being irrelevant.
3) jump said player.

I hope Kassian does the right thing over and over again and continues to cause his team to lose.

The last game he played, he lost the game for his team. The two games he sat out, the Oilers didn't seem to miss him at all.

Kassian is not a relevant player.

Or you could say that the Oilers have rallied behind Kassian while the Flames have played like crap post the incident...

I prefer to think of it as: The Oilers have done better WITHOUT Kassian dragging them down.

How many teams do better when the "heart and soul" of the team is off the ice?
... and I read over this past weekend that they're working on a contract extension.

Never change, Oilers.

Yeah, or more likely their second line is getting some unsustainable production. Every team has hot streaks and cold streaks. The Oilers are playing way over their heads right now. the Flames are playing under there's.

It won't last.

Oh and nobody rallies around an idiot that costs you the game, maybe they are relieved that the big dummy isn't on the ice costing them penalties and acting like a complete doofus spazoid jerkface.

Really, this is easy to tackle from any perspective and it circles back to what is my original point. You are playing honest, hard hockey. Why are you expected to fight?
Leaving this incident aside, look at the NHL as a whole.

we've seen countless big hits over the years that have been perfectly clean and the person making the hit was jumped and had to fight. 9 times out of 10 the attacking player is praised for "standing up for their teammate".

it's the way the league is, and all teams do it.

I agree it's stupid, but I don't have a suggestion on how to change the mentality.

I think people get legal hits confused with being safe. All Tkachuks hits were border line charging. However definitely not suspendable. A legal hit doesn’t make it a safe one. Tkachuk clearly was trying to take his head off. If the shoe was on the other foot we’d of been supporting our player too however I’m sure no one would approve of the penalties taken. This is definitely a major instance of homerism on here I’m surprised people can’t just admit that hey yeah it’s a rat move but he’s our rat so we love him.

I would not support a player on the Flames that horse collars another player, slams him to the ice and starts throwing punches at his vulnerable head. I didn't support the signing of Bertuzzi here, and I wouldn't support that kind of goon action ever.

Tkachuk was trying to throw a hard hit, if he wanted to take Kassian's head off it would have been easy since the big dummy was staring at the puck. He didn't.

The reason why the hit looks like they do was because Kassain wasn't wearing his helmet properly. Then he blew a spaz because he was made to look stupid not once, twice but thrice.

This wasn't about Kassian standing up for all of the league for a series of dirty hits. This was about Kassian, an incredibly dirty player who has thrown hits many times worse having his itty bitty feelings and pride hurt for being awful.

I'm glad we are saying horsecollar and not ragdoll (which to me is for when two guys are squared off with jerseys in hand and one of them is so strong he chucks the other around).

There are a couple circumstances where I could see a teammate fight over a legal hit - maybe on a rookie who gets creamed where the hitter had a less violent option, especially if it's clean but he went out of his way to deliver as punishing a hit as possible. But those are few and far between. There's plenty of room for sticking up for a teammate where you think it was dirty (but it wasn't). So if, say McDavid thought it was a head hit and stood up for Kassian, fine. But Kassian himself knows it wasn't - he was just embarrassed.

It won't last.

Stats to back this up? If anything it seems the Flames have come down from their over achievement last year and the Oilers are about where people expected.

What, look at that garbage lineup, most people outside of Edmonton expected that collection of trash to finish in the bottom third. They're playing so far over their head that its insane.

Edmonton has gotten where they are for the most part with two dudes, some bailing wire, and a lot of luck.

They had one of the easier schedules for the first half, lets see if they survive the second half.

They are Almost exactly the same size.

And Kassian has been in the league a lot longer. Of course he’ll have more fights.

Or is James Neal better then Mathew because his points are 542-246?

I’m not getting into it here, because I don’t care to get into a pissing match. Just it’s not some giant lopsided affair. It’s why tkchuk can crush him with a hit. Same size.

Is this the measurement we use?

Because most people outside of Calgary think Tkachuk should have owned up for his predatory hits.

Right.

Kassian listed at 6'3" 211 lbs.

Tkachuk 6'2" 202 lbs.

McDavid 6'1" 193 lbs.

So you're saying McDavid is the same size as Tkachuk.

Sure. I don’t think the weight of a small poodle is much of a difference. Although it’s been said playing weight between Kass and Matt is closer to 4-5 lbs.

Hahaha. Its been said by who? David Staples?

So youre ok with McDavid having to fight Tkachuk for his predatory hit from behind on Matthew before Kassian lost his mind and horse collared Tkachuk?

You're advocating having to fight for "predatory hits" right?

So in your world McDavid owes Matthew a fight. And they are the same size. Perfect.

I'm tired of this, I hope Luc makes Kassian answer for his horsecollar takedown and barrage of punches on Matthew. And if McDavid wants some for his garbage hit from behind he can get some too. I'm sure there is no shortage of Flames who would be happy to oblige him. FFS!

It might have been said on Tim & Sid or something like that. Maybe Burke on Oilers now. I listened to a lot of news about this.
