The league knows this game will = ratings.
Probably a stiff reminder not to end up in their office again.

What a joke, especially for a multiple time offender
Hope Lucic says hello to him on the 29th, you know face to face which is how Kassian doesn't like it.

definitely got off easy... should have been 3 for sure, if Lucic got a penalty for a gloved punch, not sure how Kassian only gets 2 for attacking someone from behind and landing 10+ punches...
I think the bizarro media got to the NHL... you don't like those hits? then take hitting out of the game, because those were clean hits...
looking forward to fireworks the next game, though i guarantee that the NHL and the referees are going to talk to both GMs and both coaches before the game and saying that any extra curricular are going to be harshly punished

Sadly, the DOPS would have given him a longer suspension based on an injury. Should be the intent that matters.

Hunh. That doesn't seem quite enough for the level of mugging that Kassian did.
Edit: Especially more so after watching their video 'explaining' it.

My guess is that Kassian has been told that if this happens again it will be 10 games (or something comparable). This is an opportunity for the DOPS to prove they can police the game themselves. If the same thing happens again, it will not reflect well on the system or the league, and they will act accordingly.

The whining is about to intensify 100 fold. Great job by the NHL on this though. Handled well.

Kassian might just play tentatively, because if Tkachuk baits him into something stupid or if he targets Gaudreau or Lindholm he will get nailed by the league.

Well, any injuries due to premeditated violence in the next BOA game are now 100% on DOPS.
The knuckledraggers, media, and Kassian are going to whip themselves into a frenzy. Ask Steve Moore how that worked out last time.

Kassian can basically never defend an Oiler player again or touch a Flames
Perfect situation

Beaten by Sureloss, not surprisingly. Leaving URL here for those who can’t access the link in the NHL video tag (eg: Tapatalk)

I used to have respect for Rob as a writer, but this is disgraceful for a credited member of the NHL media

After listening to the video, I’m shocked it wasn’t quite a bit more.
I thought they described it accurately, I just think they waffled on the length of the suspension, especially for a repeat offender.

Oilers fans think this is great... unionically looking forward to the next battle where Tkachuk keeps trucking Kassian because he's an idiot, and likely draws more power plays.
They literally do not realize that Kassian lost the game for them.

The biggest problem I have with this suspension is his first game back is against the Flames.
Not that anyone is afraid of him, but Kassian is the exact brand of meathead to do something extremely dumb, violent, and dangerous in retaliation.
This has the potential to be a tragically idiotic storyline as opposed to an entertaining one.
