Rankings like that are much more applicable to the average person than to a twenty-something millionaire athlete. When you can afford to live in the nicest neighbourhood, put your kids in a quality private school, and get the kind of health care elite athletes get, it changes things quite a bit.

That ranking includes affordability. If you wiped that Calgary wouldn't maintain it's position.
If you are a multi millionaire, bay-area california is a dream.

How does a generic list like that prove anything? We’re talking about a group of people who make millions of dollars a year and rub elbows with society’s elite. They don’t care about things like affordable health care or housing costs.
A more accurate measure of how desirable Calgary is as a destination would be the proportion of players putting the city on their NTC. And on that metric we’re bottom 5.

What is the record for the most head coaches around the league fired in one year?

Agreed. For anyone with a large amount of disposable income and money, that particular list means nothing at all.

While this is true, a lot of NTC's include all 7 Canadian cities due to taxes

What 20-something yo athlete are you referring to in this "would Laviolette be interested in coming to Calgary" discussion?

I like to see Laviolette get hired as the next Flames head coach. But at the same time, if he is hired, I wonder how long it will take for this current roster to have him fired.

Taking a while to get to 5000

If this team doesn't turn it around regardless of coach there will be big changes in the off season.
So really this core doesn't get to fire another coach after that.

It would be interesting if you looked through 2 different lenses instead:
1. His salary in Nashville was $2.5M, was it not? That's a great deal of money, but you're further out of touch with "societies elite" than I am if you think $2.5M is "rubbing elbows" impressive. I'll bet he has a nice place and is pretty comfortable, but I don't think most players and certainly not coaches are the huge deals you seem to think they are.
2. Not everyone who has money wants their lifestyle to be dictated by it. Some people might value the qualities you listed regardless of the fortunes they're swimming in. Living, breathing, talking, having relationships, taking in events, etc all matter. What if he's really into skiing, or likes mountains and fresh air a whole lot? I, for one, would be pretty bummed to go live in today's America... and I'm perfectly happy to travel to beaches a lot better than SJ when I have time to relax... With all that money, I'll fly first-class and have someone shovel my driveway in the winter.
These people have families, values, futures... and not nearly as much money as you think they do.
And again, this is very specifically a coach we're talking about here. But is there a list that Calgary is bottom 5 on? Where are the other Canadian teams?
PS.
...what do you know about the list btw (I also know nothing), and what's dismissively generic about it? An opinion, followed by a list of researched qualities seems like a perfectly good way to have a discussion. Try and be more receptive to it...
If your opinion is that those qualities don't matter to "societies elite" and that an NHL coach is a part of that, why not try and have that discussion?

True. If Laviolette's primary motivations are working a cushy job in a beautiful place and for lots of money, then SJ is the place for him. Of course, if he is also interested in winning in the short term then the Sharks are suddenly not such an attractive option.

I think the only real way you get around that (besides only targeting people with local roots, or being a perennial contender) is to offer enough money to offset those issues. Laviolette may not come here if he gets the same amount as he would in SJ or Dallas...but if that becomes a million or two more per year? Perhaps then things change.
Personally, I'd rather we reduce our internal team cap by $2-4 million, and use that money to lure in better coaches and scouts. It's a better use of money in the long-run.

Again, I think it depends greatly on where Laviolette's priorities lie. Based on the seemingly popular opinion voiced here that Calgary is a much less desirable place to live than both SJ and Dallas, then I suspect these three respective cities rank as follows:
1. SJ
2. Dallas
3. Calgary
However, what if the hotter, humid climate in Dallas does not appeal to Massachusetts native Laviolette? Then maybe he ranks the cities as such:
1. SJ
2. Calgary
3. Dallas
If Laviolette is more concerned about his coaching legacy, opportunities to win or advance his career than he is about demographics, amenities and climate, then he most likely has SJ at the bottom of his list:
1/2. Dallas/Calgary
3. SJ
Moreover, with a higher concentration in the Flames organisation of US borne players and personnel, perhaps this weighs more heavily into Laviolette's decision:
1. Calgary
2. Dallas
3. SJ
The point here being that there are all sorts of things to consider beyond location and salary. I would be pleasantly surprised if the Flames were to hire Laviolette, but it seems silly to me to dismiss the possibility outright.

I agree with you that everyone's priorities are unique, and his may very well be a good fit. My post was looking at solutions in more of a big-picture sense, as getting coaching/front-office talent here has been a problem (although I personally think a lot of that has to do with ownership). There is definitely a barrier to working in a Canadian market, and you have to find ways to stack the cards in your favor where you can.
Either way, i think the Flames should be pushing hard for him, even if we're not his obvious #1. This is a great opportunity.

Name the realistic goalies he could have picked up and list the coaches that he didn't contact? You are pretty sure in your comment so I assume that you have inside information that could help the rest of us.
