Since January 2012 -- the date of the Flames' last major midseason player-for-player trade -- here are the biggest players each NHL team has acquired in a midseason player-for-player shakeup deal.
Anaheim: Adam Henrique, David Perron
Arizona: Nick Schmaltz, Darcy Kuemper, Richard Panik, Anthony Duclair, Antoine Vermette
Boston: Charlie Coyle
Buffalo: Evander Kane, Zach Bogosian, Matt Moulson, Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, Cody Hodgson
Carolina: Nino Niederreiter, John-Michael Liles
Chicago: Dylan Strome, Brendan Perlini, Anthony Duclair, Kris Versteeg
Colorado: Samuel Girard, Mikkel Boedker, Jamie McGinn
Columbus: Seth Jones, Thomas Vanek, Marian Gaborik, Jack Johnson
Dallas: Andrew Cogliano, Greg Pateryn, Jason Demers, Erik Cole
Detroit: David Legwand
Edmonton: Sam Gagner, Mike Cammalleri, David Desharnais, Zack Kassian, Derek Roy
Florida: Derick Brassard, Riley Sheahan, Roberto Luongo
Los Angeles: Carl Hagelin, Tobias Rieder, Dion Phaneuf, Jussi Jokinen, Ben Bishop, Vincent Lecavalier, Jeff Carter
Minnesota: Kevin Fiala, Ryan Donato, Victor Rask, Tom Gilbert
Montreal: Jordie Benn, Philip Danault, Devante Smith-Pelly, Sergei Gonchar, Dale Weise (twice), Michael Ryder, Dustin Tokarski
Nashville: Ryan Johansen, Wayne Simmonds, Mikael Granlund, Kyle Turris, Patrick Eaves, Filip Forsberg (techically)
New Jersey: Sami Vatanen
NY Islanders: Thomas Vanek, Michal Neuvirth
NY Rangers: Ryan Strome, Marty St Louis, Derick Brassard, Vlad Namestnikov
Ottawa: Anders Nilsson, Marian Gaborik, Dion Phaneuf, Cory Conacher (Kyle Turris barely misses the cut by like three weeks)
Philadelphia: Ryan Hartman, Cam Talbot, Valtteri Filppula, Jordan Weal, Radko Gudas, Steve Downie
Pittsburgh: Erik Gudbranson, Jared McCann, Nick Bjugstad, Tanner Pearson, Derick Brassard (kinda), Riley Sheahan, Trevor Daley, Carl Hagelin, David Perron
San Jose: James Reimer, Brenden Dillon, Daniel Winnik
St Louis: Ryan Miller, Robert Bortuzzo, (Kris Russell barely misses the cut)
Tampa Bay: Ryan McDonagh, JT Miller, Peter Budaj, Braydon Coburn, Ryan Callahan, Ben Bishop
Toronto: Milan Michalek, Jared Cowen, Alex Stalock, Tim Gleason
Vancouver: Tanner Pearson, Josh Leivo, Markus Granlund, Jacob Markstrom, Zack Kassian
Vegas: Ryan Reaves (kind of)
Washington: Jaroslav Halak, Nick Jensen, Daniel Winnik
Winnipeg: Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford
...
Calgary: Dalton Prout? Curtis Lazar? Hunter Shinkaruk? Nicklas Backstrom? Drew Shore? Kevin Westgarth? Ladislav Smid? Akim Aliu?
Basically every single team in the NHL has added multiple impact players through midseason player-for-player trades. The Flames' biggest add in that time is Ladislav Smid, a 6/7 defenseman. And this doesn't even include pure buys, where teams added to their lineup without making any player subtractions (picks only).
But even then, with those "buying" trades considered, the Flames have only added Michael Stone, Oscar Fantenberg, and Nick Shore since 2012. Not exactly gearing up for a late-season playoff push.

There's gonna be many pissed off, and drunk Flame fans here tonight. I'm hoping I'm not one of them.

But other than that, I struggle to complain about him. Inherited what I think was the franchise in the worst shape in the league assets wise 6 years ago given the previous management (likely at ownership request) choice to ride out the Kipper and Iggy years to the bitter end and extract no value from the clear need to rebuild.
From there he’s managed to show a bias for action and this team has made the playoffs 3 of 6 years, and became respectable far quicker then I ever dreamed possible back in 2013. So I don’t think he’s overrated, but I think it’s very fair to question whether he has the right make up to push bubble team to contender......very different skill from rebuilding a team IMO.

A core that can't and won't win much.
An overrated d core where the best player is a diminishing 36 year old, and some young guys who could be top or bottom pairing dmen. I think Hanafin is not going to be a top pairing d, fingers crossed for valimaki and Anderson though. What is hamonic even doing here still?? Dumb move by treliving in the first place, guess he doesn't want to admit idiocy on that one.
Forwards...well the entire calendar year if 2019 is evidence. Great job signing backlund long term BTW. Oh but we added lucic for 3 seasons so that is an improvement right? What is Bennett even doing here still???
And finally goaltending.... Some no name goalie is our 60 game ace. Not even a tandem situation. So many big name goalies have changed jerseys over the past 5 years, this guy brings in smith......
I dunno, it's been 5 years with this gm. I'm not saying it's ALL bad but the on ice product speaks for itself. Just another mediocre gm, running another mediocre franchise. To call treliving anything above an average gm in the league is an overestimation in my opinion.

Can’t decide what’s worse, your flames takes or your politics. I guess if it was up to you you would’ve sat on fox as he refused to sign until you lost him for nothing. Moron.

I am annoyed at how streaky/ hot and cold this goddamn team can be.

Ward playing his trump card in putting Peters’ lines back together.
Not sure which is more important, finding the coach to scare some of these players into playing a consistent game, or finding another top 6 player to play with MT, now that the lines have reverted and MT’s new/old line mates have a total of 6 goals combined in 70 combined games.

Canes got good value for him, 37th overall pick and a 3rd. That would have been good value for Fox.

Did Hamilton + Ferland for Lindholm and Hanifin not happen?
