on TSN LeBrun said that one team made an offer that was more of a hockey deal than a futures deal. The Devils went back and forth on this offer and went far on it which delayed them eventually taking the Coyotes offer.
While he cant say with certainty he hints it might have been the Flames who he knows made a pretty strong offer.

Yeah, that's my guess. I still think the Flames will make a big push for Hall, and will move a core piece to recoup assets and make the necessary cap room.

I hate to speculate (but I'm gonna anyway), this screams Bennett to me. Or possibly Kylington, but I think Bennett, since Hall is also a LW.

I’m so happy we didn’t pay that price for Hall, he’s getting close to 30 and has a history with injuries. He was just not the right fit, we should spend those quality assets on a C or RW.

There is not a c or rw as impactful as Hall available. Not in a prospects/futures deal.
