Literally every insider source is saying anything is saying the delay is due to legal reasons.

Any organization that knows what they're doing would suspend pending an investigation. Even if you're willing to fire without cause, you'd likely still investigate to get all of the facts. This is how these things work.

For anyone wondering what the hold up is, why don'y you drop the N bomb at work and see how swiftly you are canned.

The only thing The Flames are worrying about is do they want Peters to be a representative of their team.

No? They are wondering how to get out of the contract with paying as little as possible.

That isn't what happened...what if I tell your boss you said the Nword 10 years back when you worked for someone else. You get fired that day?

Well we don't have a Delorian so we work with what we have.

I could say I said it yesterday and he'd just call me an idiot and move on.

Kind of apples to oranges though

To be honest, most of us probably wouldn't get fired over saying the N word 10 years ago when working for someone else. (and certainly not for cause)

But then again, most of us don't work for large organizations where public and fan perception is everything and where we have to deal with the media on a daily basis.

If you did it today at the organization I work at, you'd certainly get disciplined as it goes against our policies and values. You might even get terminated. But regardless, you would likely be suspending pending an investigation (how strange!). To be honest, if you were terminated, it would probably be not for cause. (ie. you'd get paid)

It basically boils down to investigating/confirming the allegations and whether there's grounds for firing him with cause (without pay). Trickier as the incident in question happened 10yrs ago with a different organization. Without the proper legal process Peters could turn around and sue the Flames for wrongful dismissal.

Who knows if there's a morals clause in the contract that covers this type of behavior, regardless of timeline. But it's definitely the timeline thing that makes this a legal/contractual/PR nightmare.

You forgot To add

“10 years back when you worked in the entertainment industry for someone else in the entertainment industry.”

Comparisons to most other workplaces are irrelevant.

This is an excellent summary for non-employment-law professionals. Eric is one of the best at deconstructing this stuff for public consumption.

My comment is out of context without the original quote...apples/oranges was my point.
