You know what, here in Toronto, they all joke around about Dion Phaneuf's captaincy (salute gate, etc) but there was a big story here about how he went in and changed the locker room music.
Maybe hockey locker room music is a much more sacred thing than I had imagined, and Phaneuf should be given more credit for the stones it took messing with something so holy!
Joking aside, ugh, what a sad day on so many different levels.

It is a "thing" for a player to be in charge of music, and it can be an irritant to some.
They should actually award music choice like the green hard hat.

Yeah, I don't think you can keep him because of the image factor. What are you going to do when someone throws a jersey on the ice with 'racist' on the name bar

When I played music was left up to one person but could very easily be voted out.
The thing with locker room music though is sometimes the crappier and sillier the better. Even though we all thought it was awful, I'm ashamed to say we had a lot of Katy Perry and LMFAO playing back in the day

Try a little experiment. Go find a minority individual in your organization and use a racial slur against said person. Report back what happens.

Or it was just a brash guy in a brash environment, not thinking in the moment and acted completely ignorantly. To think it was premeditated and some sort of psychological strategy of coaching players is incredibly odd.

I don't see the issue with limited search (as being framed on here), the coaching world in hockey is pretty different then just hiring someone off the street for a job. The pool of eligible and viable candidates is relatively small.....targeted hires are totally acceptable IMO because there is a lot known about them from a body of work perspective prior to any interview process.
I also think when it comes to this situation, we need to separate the "bullying" from the "alleged racism" as issues. Both are issues, but one (the bullying) has some grey around it IMO in regards to what is potentially acceptable (not necessarily effective) to tolerate within the culture of your organization, the other, the racism, is a very cut and dry issue IMO that simply can't be tolerated under any circumstance.
To be clear on the bullying point above. People may have different thresholds on what constitutes bullying versus simply tough coaching, that could warrant some debate over what is actually bullying or not. Kicking and punching players for example...........definitely bullying in my eyes.

Pretty easy to figure out why this team looks so miserable on a nightly basis.

Yeah, given all the players coming out of the woodwork, you cant drag on this investigation much longer. The sooner its back to business with this behind the team the better.
