I was rumbling thought my storage room and found a copy of Kiss Alive IV with the Australian Orchestra, it was a lot of fun.
Kiss isn't the greatest gathering of musicians, but they were one of the few that understood the basics of Rock and Roll in the 80's. Surround yourself with talented musicians. Write basic appealing 3 chord arena rock anthems. Be theatrical, Make your concerts events. Profit.
Nice. KISS actually could play with a little bit of finesse.
Oh I don't disagree. Paul and Gene were brilliant in their vision. They are the showmen of the band. I'd argue that Paul in his time was a top ranked front man, and he's pretty musically talented. Nobody will ever say that Gene is a top Bass player, I've seen them live, and he's pretty basic, but he makes it work.
Through their history though they've always bought in a strong supporting cast that could really support the music, and play it well.
Kiss Alive IV is really awesome for that, their live shows are awesome because you get great shows with real moments of genius.

Reason: Youtube
I'm re-discovering Coheed and Cambria a bit. Used to listen to them A LOT but lost interest a bit after "No World For Tomorrow". But those first 4 albums were killer.
I heard this in a store today down here. I don't know that I've ever heard Cowboy Junkies while living in the States, but I was happy to. It reminded me of how much I love this band. You're welcome for the nostalgia.

Aja is as bold as records get. It’s full of strange, unprecedented, disorienting moves. It is braver, more idiosyncratic, and more personal, in some ways, than any other record I own.
