And yes, inaccurate...Don has absolutely no idea the numbers of immigrants who do or don't wear poppies, whether they wear them sometimes, lost them, accidentally put them in the laundry. He has no idea who is an immigrant or not just by looking at them either. His entire statement is a bunch of nonsense.
Exactly. Which is why it could easily have been ignored. However, many people are outraged (at an old man yelling at a cloud). That is why there were references to a Culture of Outrage.

This thread sums up pretty nicely everything wrong with this country all one in neat little package. Good read though.

He's on a nationally televised broadcast. Why should anyone be expected to ignore him? He wants to dish out stupid takes with no push back?

I'm not saying he deserves firing or anything, but criticism is totally warranted.

That’s work. I’m lazy. Probably should be an immigrant.

Given what we know about concussions and the seriousness of them, his views are not just out of touch but part of the dangerous part of hockey culture that needs to be removed.

He's an idiotic, hate filled man that should have been taken off the air 20 years ago.
Yeah his take bothered me a lot last week, and he simply doubled down this week. I can't see him hosting beyond this year

They wanted him out for this season. This either gives them an excuse or else they have to back off again (or else look like they are accused of being reactionary).

The guy has stated his support for Putin and Trump multiple times, even after the invasion of Crimea and the Donbass. I hope he gets fired over this. Trying to shame people into wearing a patriotic symbol.

How long is this ridiculous 'Remembrance Day' thing gonna go for? It's been 74 years since the end of Imperial World War round 2. Do we really need to keep glorifying and validating the wars of the 20th Century?

They, if they is who I think you are referring to, paid him to come back, didn’t they?

If they wanted him out so badly, they could have just not given him money and had him come back. It’s not like he forced them.

My post was a farcical example of how easy it is to play the same fruitless argument against someone regardless of their politics. I’m not sure that’s on the same level as some genuinely trying to play these types of silly games, but you do you.

Wonder if Ron will address it at all tonight?
I suspect he’ll just stand there with his smug grin, spouting folksy empty nonsense about hometown hockey and collect his far chequered

Don's had an amazing career. It's hard to believe he's 85.
I think if he called it a career, he could leave saying he's accomplished more than he ever dreamed he would. It would give him the opportunity to focus his attention on some of the causes he speaks so passionately about on air.

Remembrance Day is going to last as long as we are a free nation. And yes, I’m fine glorifying a war that stopped the Nazi’s.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Give your head a shake.

Ron didn't make the comments. I'm not sure it's his place to apologize on behalf of Cherry.

Is this a joke? Support for Putin?

Stopping observing WWII when some of the heroes who fought for the nation are still alive?

One of the all time worst posts I have seen. Quite an achievement

And people wonder why Don gets so upset.

Don Cherry is a very wealthy man. I wonder if he did more than just buy a poppy. Probably not.

I don’t care to look in to his overall philanthropic resume but do know he has a pet rescue organization

I just meant in terms of Remebrance Day this year since he was shaming immigrants for not spending money on poppies.

Well, for starters, not a lot of people know this, but he allocated a portion of his national television segment to honouring veterans.
