Yet foreign investment in Canada is 180 degrees from the US. Certainly I can't be the only person that's made a lot of money on my US investments this decade while being forced to invest as little in Canada as possible. As a Canadian it's not something ideally I want to do but if I want to retire at a decent age Justin kind of forced my hand chasing out foreign investment in the country.

I'm certainly not elitist. Nothing has been given to me as I'm just a person that has worked a lot for a long time and wants to ensure I have a few years retirement to spend enjoying life before it's over.

Not really. As just a regular mid level worker, my work offers RRSP through Sun Life, and it gives options on how I want my RRSP investments to go. Similar to EE, I have also skewed my RRSP pie in more US funds, and less Canadian funds for the past 10 years, and it's worked out very well for my rrsp portfolio return rate. There's no elitism about that. It's just a regular Joe Blow RRSP account.

And yet, since Jan 1st, 2016 the TSX has gone up by 28%. And it didn't even require adding trillions to the debt to give corporations money for share buybacks like in the US.



So by your measures, the Liberal government must be doing a bang up job.

TSX Comp: up 18.3%, or 4.2% annual compound

S&P500: 46.9% or 10.0% annual compound

2016 was the first point where their tax and monetary policies would actually have tangible effects on the economy. Since the start of that year the stock market has gone up nearly 30% and unemployment has dropped from a level that was over 30% higher than it currently is.

I mean, I know that's a stupid metric for judging a government's effectiveness, but if we're going to congratulate Trump on the great job he's going because of the stock market and unemployment rates, it's only fair to apply that to our own country too.
