With what cap? From what I can tell they have about $35K to work with.
Are we to assume he's signing for league minimum and that a young kid is getting sent down? That's gotta suck since Marleau is quickly approaching replacement level status.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Guess San Jose needed a boost.
Also that will be Marleau's drink of choice on the bench.

When your name is thrown out there with the Oilers, you'll take anything from anyone at this point.

I'm more interested in wear Justin Williams ends up, as that team will actually have a shot at the cup...

He'd look good on the Flames second line.

Sadly i think the manner in which things have ended in Calgary for UFAs choosing to sign here in recent years means that we are unlikely to attract folks like Justin Williams. We just don't seem to be good at selecting them and slotting them into our lineup very well. It almost seems like a career limiting move to sign here as a veteran UFA. Hope i am wrong in this regard, but it is a disturbing trend if you are a 30-something player hoping to prolong your career.

Very true. And not even just recently. Tony Amonte, Owen Nolan, Troy Brouwer, James Neal, etc etc etc.

Something is heating up in San Jose alright and it smells like a steaming pile of crap on the ice to start the season.

Pretty darn impressive ironman stuff. His 788 consecutive streak that just ended at the start of this season ranks 6th all time. Started at age 29 (I think only 1gp before he turned 30)...four of the guys above him started at age 20 or 21; Yandle's active streak of 799 started at age 23, and included an 84 game season due to trade. Yandle will be just 3 games shy of Doug Jarvis all time record if he plays 82 this year and next.
I wonder if Marleau has the record for most 82+ gp seasons (11)?
Jarvis played every possible game in 12 seasons, Yandle is at 9x82+. I think Howe played all possible games in 15-17 seasons, but too lazy to check season maximums to be sure)
Marleau: 11x82 gp seasons, 3x81, 80, 79, 78, 77, 76, and career low 74 in rookie season (plus all 48 in lockout year).
Including playoff games Marleau drops from 5th to 7th all time.
Howe's 2421 total gp (including 419 WHA reg season and 78 playoffs) is simply insane.

IMO, there isn't one team in the league that couldn't use Marleau. With the Leafs he was really good. Come playoff time I'm sure a guy like that on one of the bottom two lines could separate you from a knockout, so I'm sure every team is kicking the tires. Most likely a California-area team gets him though. I'll take a flyer and go with Las Vegas if they have any cap space.

He had an OK total points amount, but he fell off a cliff in the last quarter and in the POs last year. I think teams are leery that he hit a wall.

There's a couple waiver-free guys they can bury, among other tricks up their sleeve.

H. Sedin had 12. Iginla had 11 as well.
Marleau does have the most 80+ game seasons at 15 which probably does a fairer job on those who had a game or two off because of resting for playoffs. Lidstrom and Recchi had 14.
