I've been asking "why is Rinaldo still in the NHL?" every season for like 5 seasons. I really hope he doesn't get a contract.

I always thought that Rinaldo was a dirty punk, now I think that he is a blow hard as well. Pretty sure that sitting in the room with that guy for two weeks would make me want to shove a sock in his mouth.

Don't understand the blow hard comment. Just seems motivated to make an impact.

Except that never happens in the NHL anymore.

Rinaldo can bang there is no disputing that. Watching him in Boston and Philly I would say several games changed because of a big hit or fight on his end. Yes about once a month he would go over the line, if that can be removed from his game he can be useful.
I do not see an issue with him getting reps on a 2 way on the farm and coming up when needed to be a deterrent.

Does the Stockton Heat have a policeman? Usually they're employed to help protect the young-uns, plus there's still a goon culture undercurrent in minor league hockey. Ryan Lomberg's under-sized and is used more in a "pest" role.

Playing with a couple bangers might also bring out the sleeping giant in Jankowski.

It would be HUGE for this team if he could develop even a little bit of snarl in his game, but Im not holding my breath on it. He plays SO utterly soft its almost embarrassing. He has NHL skills but he just doesnt bring them with much conviction.

also agree that Czarnick is waived/AHL bound at best. Just no room on a good team for a small guy that doesnt produce.

This is what I think as well. If not just because he doesn't seem to be effective at the NHL level, then also because of cap constraints. I think the Flames can bury $1.0 m of Czarnik's salary in the AHL, and that essentially covers Mangiapane's cap-hit. Otherwise a trade will help toward fitting Tkachuk in.

Czarnik's play away from the puck leaves something to be desired. He is the kind of player where if he is not scoring then he is not useful.

Yeah, with Hathaway's departure I could see Rinaldo earning a contract in that 13th forward POS tough guy role easily, ala Tanner Glass.
I don't like Rinaldo as a player (just like I didn't like Glass), however Glass 100% earned a contract based on his camp and pre-season.

Dressing Prout in that type of role last year didn't really work because then you're down to 5 NHL defencemen. Much easier to dress a F like Rinaldo in key games when needed IMO.
